Context: None of the following is me complaining about my past, but simply acknowledging what hand I have been dealt. I am looking to play this hand to the best of my ability and improve my skills at the game. I used to be extremely introverted in school. This was mostly due to being on ADHD meds and them sapping nearly all desire to socialize out of me. (Ironically enough, the pills were red). I stopped taking them right after my junior year and started being more social, but not a ton. Just enough to finally get my first girlfriend. Fast forward to now, I'm 24. I'm a lot more social than I was in school, but still prefer to have a lot of time to myself for reading and learning languages. Also, I live in a small town of about 35k people, with the nearest "Big" town of about 600k people is being an hour away. There really aren't much in the ways of clubs to start build with here.
I have hobbies, work full time, and working on getting a degree online, but only for that piece of paper because most all of college is a waste of money. I will be moving out of the country for work in 3 years once I am done. This puts me in the position of not having to worry too much about my ruining my current (and rather modest) social circle. My current social circle consists almost entirely of family, some of which have been really great friends for a long time, and a few friends from high school, one of which is one of my best friends and has been for over 10 years. However, I still don't even see my best friends more than a few times a month. I am not planning on screwing anyone over in the process, at least not intentionally. I am simply taking an amoral approach to this.
The "What and Why":
So realizing today that I will be in a completely new country without having to worry about my current social circle and what happens to it in 3 years, I had an idea for an experiment and would like to hear you guys' thoughts on it. Things I might not be taking into account or personal experience with anything related to having a large social circle would be great. I am planning to actively try to vastly increase my social circle. I mean on a much larger scale than I currently have. Some reasons for me looking to do this are to push myself outside of my comfort zone and develop a very important skill that will help me socially and professionally in the future, to increase my chances to meet women for hookups and increase my social proof around women within my circle, to open up more opportunities for myself, and because I just want to see if I can actually do it and how it plays out. I can be quite sociable when I am actually out and about. However, I find myself spending most of my time at my apartment. I am not scared of being social or anything. It's just not my default state.
The Experiment:
I am planning on using a couple of my current hobbies to try to hang out with acquaintances that share hobbies with me. I will try to become better friends with them. Then I will try to become better acquainted with their friends, and then become better friends with those friends with which I share a common interest of some sort, become better friends with them and better acquainted withe their friends, rinse, repeat. I will also try to get into clubs or groups that center around hobbies of mine, should I find any. If I meet women I am attracted to, I will try to game them.
Potential Problems:
I am not quite sure how having a large social circle will play out yet, but I can see the potential for situations where one mistake in one area could drastically affect another. I am not too worried about the long term ramifications, moving out of the country and all. I would however, like to try to avoid this, since this is an attempt to improve my skills. I realize I might have to rebuild a few times, but would appreciate any advice that could help mitigate how many times I will have to do this.
Also, any tips on incfreasing your social circle would be great. Thanks.
