Don't bring up any specific topics. Go to move is to bring up a funny story. For instance there is this very popular restaurant in my town and it has a bunch of gopher holes behind it. One day this guys dog bit one of the gophers and dropped it, it started shrieking and crying, and then went back into the hole. That's like a human getting bit by a t-rex and then just dropped haha. Find what interests them and have a discussion about it don't just ask questions but show you have some understanding of what they are into and tell them that what ever they do is bad ass.
