Well I want to start this out with a little bit of background. I just discovered seddit a few days ago, I've never been one for much small talk and such and I feel that dampened my social possibilities thus far. Although I am still only 19, so I realize I have plenty of time to learn and hon my social skills, and I don't look back with regret I only look forward with the possibilities of what I am going to be able to do, which is to be a socially awesome person.
So basically the last few days I've been wanting to get out and start talking to anyone and everyone as everybody suggests to do on here. I still haven't gotten out to do it but as I am out and about doing my everyday shit, it has been in the back of my mind. I have also gotten a few of the books people here suggest and have started reading through them a bit.
So tonight it is Friday night and me and my friends never really do shit, I mean we kick it with us and it's fun and all but I want to get out and meet new people and meet girls and get out and party. Tonight I was just really fed up with not doing any thing and not meeting anyone new and doing the same old shit. So I try and get one or two other of my friends, ones that I know are also down to be out trying new stuff. So me and one friend go out to nearby Berkeley, the closest college town, hoping to find a party or at the least meet some new people or talk to some people. Long story short it was a complete and utter failure. We walked around a bit, didn't talk to anyone, after about 30-45 minutes we decide to just head home.
It was extremely frustrating but I do NOT regret it for one second. I learned a great deal from the short lived night out there. First off, I don't need to go all the way out there, it isn't too bad of a drive, maybe 30 minutes or less, but I realized I'm not going to make something out of nothing out there yet, unless something just falls into my lap. I need to go out locally during the day, to my nearby parks or malls or whatever and start striking up conversations with anyone and everyone as has been suggested many times on here. I need to get over my AA and learn openers and transitions, practicing in the mirror maybe to get my confidence up, along with practicing smiling in the mirror and at everyone I see.
It felt like a complete and utter failure and is extremely frustrating that i cant just instantly be good at this, but it was still better then sitting at home. I know I have the drive and desire to get better at this so I just need to channel that into action of getting out of the house.
I know this is probably a ridiculously long post but I think writing it all out will actually help me.
Tldr; first night out trying to find a party in nearby college town was complete failure but learned quite a bit and even though extremely frustrating do not regret it.
Edit: one thing I wanted to ask about is what to do for the weekend night life to get out and get into social situations when under 21? A majority of things seems to be bars or clubs, which I feel I would be able to approach people with a little more ease in that kind of setting. I don't want it to be an excuse but I don't know really where to go to meet new people and it's difficult to start with random people walking past you, at least at night.
