I saw a cute girl while waiting for my bus and decided to initiate a conversation, but I quickly found out that I need to improve on my skills in Conversational Threading. I walked up to the girl and decided to talk to her by pretending I had mixed her up for a different girl I knew by saying "-----?" She said no she wasn't and at this point I felt a bit anxiety happen. I asked if her name was (different name) and again she said no. I tried to use my surroundings to lead a conversation by asking cold questions, such as "Are you a junior? Are you taking AP classes?" After she said yes to the first and no to the latter I panicked on the inside and tried to figure out how to go from there, but I couldn't figure out anything. I suggested she should take AP Psychology, but I couldn't figure out how to lead the conversation. It ended awkwardly with me just walking towards a friend as he called out to me at the exact same time as she answered a call. In hindsight I realize I could have possibly talked about some of the interesting things that happened in AP Psych. However what advice would you guys do in this situation? I only gave myself 30 seconds before approaching as oppose to the 3 second rule, so perhaps that was a factor. Of course I'll try again with a different person as my success rate has been a consistent 50/50 so far (as in I introduced myself and made a new friend, ending with them adding me on Facebook).
