I had a successful date tonight.
Back up a little bit first: I went to a local show a while ago and was mingling with a friend and his friends one of whom is a pretty woman. We started talking, and lo and behold, she shares one of my biggest interests. I asked her for her number and got it. Later I asked if the guy who was bugging her to come in and watch the bands was her boyfriend, nope, and then if she had one, nope, "good to know," I responded. Show ended, and I gave her a slightly awkward hug as we departed. I tried to make plans with her to get together to eat, and she was interested, but they ultimately fell through. Then I was really busy for a couple of weeks. After coming across the quote, "Asking is a moment's embarrassment. Not asking is a life long regret," I tried again the other night, and this time everything worked out.
Back to tonight: We went to place I've heard good things about from friends (plus I had a coupon). I thought to try to sit next to her, but in the situation, it struck me like that would seem awkward. There was lots of conversation, and we have more interests in common. I maintained eye contact often, and tried to see if her pupils were dilated, but she has dark irises, and the restaurant was dimly lit, so I could not tell. I suggested a future date idea that was well received. The only thing during dinner that might be considered kino was light foot contact. After dinner, I walked her to her car and gave her a very comfortable hug. No kiss, not enough build up prior, and even if she had been receptive to it, I'd've probably fucked it up. Slow and steady and all that. Although when is unclear, there will be another date.
Summation: used some of the skills picked up from seddit, but a whole lot of it was sheer luck, though, "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity."
