How do I return compliments/ WTF is flirting?

Although I am terrible at accepting compliments I know what needs to be done. Accept it. That is often the hardest thing for people to do. Say "Thank You" "Glad you noticed". Whatever to acknowledge the compliment. It can be ok to say something like "right back at you hot stuff" in the right situation, but I was told that in a way it is like making the compliment null. The other person was trying to give you a compliment. Usually, the best thing to do is accept it, and I know that's what the other person is looking for. He/she will feel good that their compliment was well received, opening up for further conversation. Negating it is kind of the same as someone trying to give you a gift and you just refuse to take it. A bit rude, don't you think? So, if you get compliments, be happy, accept it, and appreciate it by showing interest. After all, people don't just throw around compliments, usually they said to start a conversation.
