Hey Bud! So this predicament your in does suck, in your opinion, not mine. YOU have to realize that first off, your TRYING. Your putting yourself out there and showing off who you are, and have BALLS talking to women which most men don't. So realize that what you are doing, like you stated anyway, your fine! Like you've also stated your true problem is the girls are already dating or talking to some one. So in my opinion, DON'T take it on yourself and let it bring down your self-confidence. You already have it all, and if you let it get to you, you are only going to kill yourself with talking to the ladies and end up worse then you were way before this point. So the final thought is to just KEEP GOING. Sooner or later no matter what you will find some one. It's inevitable. Keep your standards for what you like the same and don't change. Just keep going man and you'll be fine.
For my tips on finding out if they are single, try and think out of the box like I do. First, look at the hands, look for a claddagh ring and see how its positioned. Then work you wonders. Secondly if in party setting, see who the girl talks to and see if she is with anyone in a "close" way, that will tell you if she's taken or talking or already into someone. Lastly, talk to them without asking right off the bat or blatantly. See how she flirts with you an her body language that will only hint as to if she's taken or not.
Now for talking wise if nothing else works, first off, don't ask right off the bat if she wants to date or is she dating or talking to anyone. They will most likely think your a creep and trying to get in pants. How I work my way to talking to get a answer with out them realizing is always based on the situation. Talk to them normally and when you add in jokes or comments that are funny you could add in like "I bet your ""guy"" must like/hate that when that happens" etc.. It gives her the somewhat a forced way to mention if she's with someone or not. know what I mean? Add in subtle comments to make her tell YOU if she's with someone or not.
In some situations if the girls cool and relaxed and you guys are talking about something like for example "private" talk about the subject for a bit, and like say "oo sorry well are you with someone? I don't want to intrude on you personal life like that if your with someone" OR if they are asking like "private" advise from you having to do with males, just ask "well first let me ask, are you with some one?" You can make them comfortable and simply either subtlety do it, or "kind of" ask out right, then DROP it, make her forget you asked her. So with those few tips, add your own twist on how you do things and see how it goes. My best wishes man and keep going!

Post some FRs of your approaches and people can give you feedback, or better yet videotape it somehow. (One guy did that like a month ago)

dance or cooking classes, or anything that suits your intrest realy.
I think you can meet people snowboarding at the lodge (I've never been snowboarding haha)
in my city, the more central you go more hot girls there are.
if you move to the "cool young neighborhood" in your city, you could litteraly just go out side. I've stayed in "the cool young neighborhood" of my city. On the way to the house I passed 2 hot girls walking there dog. And then I went to the taco restraunt and there were hot girls there, and just out and about going to the different businesses. I wanna move there haha!

You're already approaching, so that's good. You're dealing with failure, and that's even better.

That's been 100% effective for me. I chat someone up, decide I want her, then take control and change the scenery.

You're already immediately on a date because it's just the two of you doing something. Then after the sex, you can decide if she's worthy of more.
