Dont do it through the internet if you decide to go through with it. there's nothing wrong with bumping into someone and than striking up the conversation to go on a date. I have done this twice and both times were successful but you have to make sure they are in a good mood and it won't cause them trouble. AHHH highschool I remember you

You can make it smoother by forcing an IOI before hand to see where she's at. Make eye contact with a girl if you like what you see. Then when she looks back, head nod, smile, give a little smirk, wink if that's your personality. Just acknowledge her in a confident way. If she responds and it's even remotely positive, then your in. In those cases not only is it not weird, she wants you to talk to her.

You're getting mixed reactions here so I'll throw in my 2 cents.

Don't do it through Twitter. You're decreasing your chances significantly. Don't you guys get an hour long lunch? Use that time to find her and strike up a conversation, get her number and text her. DMs are absolutely horrible compared to texting especially if you haven't met her in real life yet.
