Stop scheming. You think too much about logistics, searching for the most effective way to allow thing to flow in your favor. Just stop. Don’t try and come up with reasons for and to ask them out. Your overall goal is to spend time with them, yeah? So just say that. Don’t be cryptic and try and persuade them indirectly. That’s toxic, honestly, and has rarely ever worked. It may work at the start to help pique their interest, but from then on it’s your character that keeps them interested. Be honest, and don’t beat around the bush.

This is just something I felt like I had to explain to myself to understand it better, but I figured I may as well post it here to in case any of you had anything to add or needed to hear it for yourselves.
