Opening help needed

You most likely don't know anyone who will read this thread. Yet you still posted it, and probably without being 'terrfie[d]'.

I'd recommend the FAQ and looking for some highly rated posts to read to start. However, I'll go past that. Next time you're in a social situation with new people, just imagine them as redditors, looking at stupid comics on here. It's an association game: comfortable on internet becomes comfortable with users becomes comfortable with people becomes comfortable off the internet.

At the end of the day, we're all just trolls who like pictures of cats.

Approach and compliment them on something that you imagine they don't get complimented on too often (ie glasses, sports paraphenilia, tattoos). Not the best way to break the ice but at least it's something.

Is she holding a drink in her hand? Take a guess, say something along the lines of either good choice, also a good choice, oh that's cute. Good conversation starter.

Sports/band/school attire... Score! Compliment it, or crack at it. No way that you won't start a convo there.

Try "peacocking", so you can get a bit of attention (but not make it too obvious that that's what you're doing), and you'll be noticed before you approach them, or even better, they will approach you. I, for example, have a couple of ridiculous 90's winter hats that I like to wear.

Or you can always just go say hi. Screw what they will think about you. You will get rejected several times before you land a hit, yea, but it's better than doind nothing.
