You will do better if you find a place where there's a line to the cashier before you sit down, then you can chat with women in line.

Chasing down women randomly puts you in creeper territory especially if they're just getting their bagels and walking to their car.

Cafes are great low-key places to pick up girls. The girl I've been dating this past month was a French tourist who I picked up at a cafe in Thailand. I saw her sitting outside by herself, and then I went outside to pretend to empty sand out of my shoe. We looked at each other, and I started a conversation literally by asking her what she'd ordered.

If you're starting off, I would try to just get comfortable talking to girls at cafes, without worrying about trying to "pick them up". Go indirect and just have a conversation with the girl to see if it goes anywhere.

It's a good way to practice three really key skills for pickup:

Maintaining eye contact with a girl. Lock onto her eyes and never look away before she does. This is a fundamental skill that you need to have to do pickup, and practicing on cafe girls is a good place to start.
Bantering and telling stories. Most seduction newbs ask too many questions when they talk to a girl (I certainly did). Use talking to a girl at a cafe as an opportunity to practice having a getting-to-know you-conversation in an entertaining way that doesn't depend on going into interview mode. Practice telling stories that make you sound interesting and mysterious but not full of yourself. Cold-reading is a good way to "ask" a girl about herself without sounding like you're asking a boring interview question, i.e. instead of "What do you study?" say "So you look like you study marketing, am I right?"
Incorporating keno into your interactions with girls. You obviously can't get too physical with a girl, but you can practice light touches. A tap on the arm or shoulder when you're teasing her or when you're emphasizing a point. Being able to do this stage of keno automatically will get you to the next stage faster when you're on a date.

Here's how you can start a conversation with a girl at a cafe:

If a girl is sitting next to you, or reasonably near you, you can turn to her and ask her what she's working on or what she's up to. If she's studying or doing something for work, she'll appreciate having the opportunity to take a break.
If a girl is far away from you, see if you can catch her eye and get a few glances at each other. If she seems to give you a couple of looks, it's usually (but not always) a sign that you can come over and talk. "So what are you up to?" (with a friendly smile) is enough to start a conversation. This is a higher risk, higher reward move.

Really, any opening can be used to start a conversation (last week, I got a date by interrupting a conversation between two Ukrainian girls sitting next to me at a cafe to tell them I used to live in Ukraine), and your end goal is to get to the point where you feel comfortable going more direct and more not-caring-what-others-think when you feel like it.

Another important point: the more social you are at cafes, the more you will associate being at a cafe with being social. When you've talked to lots of girls (and guys) at cafes, you will automatically be able to get into a social, talkative mood when you go to cafes (especially if you always go to the same one). This reduces the need for warm-up and will alleviate anxiety you have about approaching.

Hey there, you should just warm up and do the ones you actually can talk to, as anxiety goes away and you actually feel comfortable do some in some quiet environments, that way you realise it was all in your head!
