If you know you are not going to see the person anytime soon, just have fun and be yourself!

Don't try to escalate or make any plans. This should cut off any pressure or outcome dependency.

Winter time is a good time to build that familiarity and comfort with someone instead of always trying to go for the hangout/date.

I would say the "slow game" is a very important part of getting a stable friendship or relationship going. If you're looking to play the slow game my best advice is to focus on being yourself and sharing hobbies and completely silence the portion of your mind that is pressuring you into a larger goal. Associating with a girl is great and lead to great friendships. If you're able to actually go out and do something with the person then do that! If you can't get out to see this person and want to work the slow game, try to make small conversations here and there and whenever you get around to going out feel free to explain how you wish you could have included them or something along those lines.
