Well I(17m) really don't try or ever commit, is there any signs to look for in her reaction to my advances, what should I be doing to be casual but also gain her attention, admiration, and trust?

Honestly idk how to explain the situation, she's a year younger and we're both in highschool JROTC so since my rank trumps hers, it's taboo and if my army instructor finds out then I'll lose rank. I get really good vibes from her but been avoiding her because I honestly don't know how to approach this one. Ik if I asked her rn she'd most likely say no but that's because we don't know each other at much of a personal level yet. How can I justify walking her to class and what if other students are arround?
