Women as wingmen is a long accepted idea, she is sometimes called a "pivot." Coming into a bar with a woman shows pre-selection, other women notice you are with another woman, that gives you much higher social value than the chumps who came alone or in groups of guys. Wingwomen can do the "pivot," she can chat with other women and then introduce you, and then eject and leave you alone with the woman the set, leaving the two of you together. Women are less resistant to new guys if they were introduced by a woman.

I think its a good idea. I feel its less "threatening" to women if you have a female wing man, particularly if your personality is more attractive than your body. Then you can roll up to a pair of ladies that have been rejecting guys all night and just start chatting with her before you try to play any game.

I became the wing(wo)man for a friend on a night out unintentionally and imo it worked out pretty well for him. I was able to make conversation with the nearby girls at the bar. later when we were getting another round I said I had enough, but turned to my new girl friend and said she seemed like she could use another drink. My friend and her both got to talking as I talked to other people. I think it worked nicely because the girls felt less threatened, more comfortable, and even though I didn't know my new friend, I could still be her out if she didn't want to talk to him.

Also, I think it made it easier for girls to talk to us initially because it doesn't look like she's randomly striking up conversation with a guy and ditching her friends.
