My brother thought the divorce rates going up was atrocious because it takes apart the nuclear family and I pointed out that divorce rates went up when women started having more opportunities instead of just get married, raise children, serve your husband. Why stay with a pos man when I can support myself? To women, divorce is liberation.

And he was like “well they should’ve stayed and tried to make it work” so I asked him how could they make it work with a man who can’t see them as an individual beyond their “wifely duties.” A man who wholeheartedly believes a woman’s place is in the kitchen and in the bedroom. Do you think a woman could just sit down with a man who has beat her and oppressed her and kindly talk it out so he could stop beating her and oppressing her? Men make it that the only way a woman can have a higher quality of life is divorce from them. Divorce equates to women’s freedom and happiness.

And he answered “well happiness isn’t everything”

And yet a woman should sacrifice her freedom for the happiness of a man? How convenient that the man is the only one benefitting in that position.
