I take a yearly trip way up north every year for a week, but am looking for places to go that can act as little weekend trips to fill in the gaps between my main yearly trip.

I am in the midwest, so there are really not a lot of great places close by. There are some pretty good Nebraska state parks which I have been to, but they are not much for sight-seeing.

I am about an 8 hour drive from the Denver, CO area, so I am sure that opens up a lot of amazing possibilities, but I have never been camping anywhere in CO before.

Aside from just general sight seeing and camping, my main interests are fishing and kayaking.

Google obviously has loads of information out there, which I have been rummaging through, but I thought I would ask the guys here about any personal recommendations or favorites.

TL:DR What are some good weekend camping spots accessible via the midwest?
