I think al was just red pilled too late in life. He bought into the lie as a youngster. He thought he needs to marry peg after high school and pop out kids. Then life will be happy. If he waited a few years and saw the suffering in his friends lives he would of went his own way.

The thing I liked about Married with Children is the fact that every major character was an idiot...a stark contrast from other sitcoms in which only the father was an idiot.

Peg, Bud, Kelly and even the neighbors were as dumb as a box of rocks...not just Al.
