Exactly. Both men and women should be celebrated for their contributions to society. It has always been feminists -- not men -- who have denigrated the traditional female role.

Furthermore, as Degler shows, in nineteenth-century America, both the public and private spheres were prized and valued. The companionate marriages described by Jane Austen were the American domestic ideal. Alexis de Tocqueville commented on the essential equality of the male and female spheres in Democracy in America (1840) “Americans,” he said, did not think that men and women should perform the same tasks, “but they show an equal regard for both their perspective parts; and though their lot is different, they consider both of them as being of equal value.” (Christina Hoff Sommers)

Edit: the current problem is that the male role as well as the female role throughout history is being denigrated by feminists. If a woman is a housewife she has "never worked a day in her life", to quote Hillary Clinton; and the male role has been reduced to "oppressor" rather than protector and provider.
