Recently I've been thinking about "LGBT" (the term itself, I refer to) and the fact that lesbians are the first group referenced. Is anyone else thoroughly unsurprised that even in the queer community, women have been given preference?
Never mind that there are more gays than lesbians. Never mind that gays have been and still are the major victims of discrimination and violence. Never mind the arguably greater contribution gays have made toward recognition.
Those are some of the many reasons that I consciously use "GLBT" exclusively. I urge you all to do the same, if you have reason to use it.
