It also doesn't hurt that we remind boys of how little they should be doing education and should be focusing on sports and athletics. I'm for health nature, but when they see sports players glorified and the nerds made fun of, not to mention the common perception of income gap (millions to sit on a bench half the time to $40k busting your butt if you're lucky), why would boys want to read?

If you make kids read non-fiction instead of fiction the boys suddenly jump way ahead of the girls. Everyone reading fiction? Well then the girls are way ahead. Any decent teacher knows this.

Have boys read interesting things, not books full of relationships & emotions, pandering to women. I used to read a lot of Isaac Asimov's science fiction, which was true "hard" science fiction, not fluffy puffy emo crap. It involved, you know, science.

i just sort of stumbled upon this subreddit so i hope its ok that im here

i have seen a few studies suggesting that boys learn to read at a different pace than girls. I know my brother really struggled to learn to read (became frustrated with his lack of success and didn't want to try) until he moved from a co-ed to a single sex school where the boys learning styles and paces were closer to his. Maybe the key to getting boys to read is ensuring that they are in an environment that supports their needs.
