Just gonna say a few things, not trying to shit on your contribution but it should be noted by anyone reading this. 102 people is a shit small sample, they were also all students thus it's not a cross-section of the entire population but probably looks at an age demographic of 18-25. Secondly, self-reports are not a reliable way of gathering qualitative data.

For example, when I apply for jobs and they make you do a self-report psychometric likert test to see if you're suitable for the job I always lie and tell them what they want to hear, only a "dumb psychopath" is going to say "Yeah, I strongly agree stealing from the company is fine!" or "I strongly disagree other people needs are more important than my own".. they're looking for a subservient sap, so you put all the shit in that makes you seem like the perfect servant, you're not YOU, you paint an illusion of what they want when you go for the job, once you get the job, you drop the bullshit... but all those likert scales were fooled.

Now these students don't have an incentive (monetary) to lie, but simply, even immoral people know being perceived as immoral is not favourable (hence all the blue pill hamster girls rationalising their sins away and playing numerous victim cards to get society to agree with their hamster) thus, you have to take studies like this with a grain of salt as they are low in ecological validity. A better way to measure behaviour is through observation without the targets consent, not through self-report questioning, plus you need a much larger sample size that accounts for age, ethnicity, religion, gender and any other social or genetic traits which will affect socialisation.

N = 100 is a decent sample. You can get statistically significant results with 20 people. You can get interesting results with 6. 18-25 is also probably quite close to the demo of this sub.

And yeah, a questionnaire is far from ideal but the mind reading machine isn't quite here yet.

I'd have thought that an anonymous questionnaire would have far less social desirability bias than a personality test in a job application. Not saying you're wrong but I don't think that's a valid comparison.

Fair enough. I agree it would perhaps have less social desirability bias than a job, but it's within an educational setting, they won't want teachers/researchers thinking they're psychos. You think they're gonna buy all the promises of anonymity? I'm speculating now, still less ecologically valid than non-consensual observation though.

I don't know how much background you have in the field, I've only studied it briefly, but the ethical guidelines for psychological experiments such as this are very strict. Participant anonymity is a very important factor in the guidelines.

In my opinion anonymity shouldn't be a concern with these questionnaires.

Yeah, ethics hamper the validity of the findings. There are strict guidelines too, you're right, and it's these ethics which require participant consent, if you go back before ethics were in a place a lot of high quality research was done without participant consent and the validity of the findings resultantly was high, such as the famous Milgram study. What I'm saying is that by giving the participant awareness, if they have a machiavellianist disposition, such as myself, their paranoia will be high enough to give false data, thus reducing the overall validity of the sample.
