Higher mind? Is that a recognized scientific term?
[–]totorox[S] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No, it's an occult Theosophy term, coming from Helena Blavatsky and later Alice Bailey.
Excuse my training:)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theosophy#Blavatskyan_Theosophy_and_the_Theosophical_Society
Feel free to bring up a description of men/women respective and balanced powers and abilities that doesnt use spiritual terminology and is more efficient than this one. I mean the core of the description :
Obviously it's the last level that's lacking in the usual understanding of the problem. And as it's a spiritual level, it's delicate. I could have striven to phrasing my description of the higher mind in profane terms but what for?
Note : I'm not pushing Theosophy, I've long disassociated with it as well as with the new-age movement which it gave birth to. But I've kept many of its core beliefs anyway. Spiritualism just explains many things more efficiently than materialistic-philosophy-based disciplines like Psychology do.

They are the gatekeepers not only of sex, but also of purpose
This is big right here. Something feminist don't get. Men will be what is necessary to attract women.
Feminist can rage and bitch about the legit discussion behind "rape fantasies" all they want, but the truth is women want to be dominated by a strong(er) man. They want a man who knows what he wants and takes it. Its biology. Deal with it.

Thanks. It was a lightbulb moment that I hadnt seen coming when starting the writing of the comment.

But then they will direct that male energy into supporting a family and a community. They will give it purpose. Women will strive to dominate their man in the realm of ideals, and my intuition/perception is that they are equipped to doing that just as much as we are equipped to dominating on the physical and lower mental realms, and they are on the emotional level.

Lower mental realms of men?
That's an interpretation, that's not what I meant. If you look at the feelings level, men don't lack feelings. They're just usually in a receptive mode on that level, not in an emissive one. It doesnt make men's feeling nature any less powerful, able or subtle than women's... or does it? I also said that women were falling short of using their higher mind in a way that would inspire men.

Yeah, it was consistent with what I was saying but I somehow cringed while writing it.

There's a reason this is 'spiritual'. None of it is scientific, factual or - most importantly - correct. This is some strange, outmoded way of thinking which couldn't really find a place in modern society. Having these made-up, easy-sketch diagrams of male and female brains just creates a likable illusion as to how people work. This is not how people work. This is pseudo-psychology rubbish.

This is not how people work.
I find it very accurate though. The only point of contention, I believe is about the higher mind. The rest of the polarities is dead on and hardly debatable, wouldnt you agree ?
But if we limit our description and understanding to these levels it leaves women as inferior, impaired poles of the pair. Is that wise or even consistent with observation?
How else do you account for women dominating and manipulating men so well and so easily? Only through feelings and sex? No, there is some mind stuff involved as well. Wouldn't you agree?
There's a caveat though. It makes women the superior sex, as the higher level always dominates the lower one, like the emotional manipulator will dominate the brute every time. I'm not satisfied with that analysis outcome.

But I find it to be such a simple, cliche and unwarranted theory. The notion of the brute being controlled by the more intellectual but physically weak counterpart is a cliche beyond repetition. I think the huge, missed out factor here is cultural influence.
A prime-fighter boxing-match star will have a completely different mindset, way of thinking and chemical brain to say, an award-winning, artistic clothes designer or artist - even if they are both male or both female. Analytic thoughts are, I presume, more scientific and logical. It would make sense if you look at the numbers of male to female scientists and engineers in America. But if you look at Norway (a FAR more gender neutral society), the numbers actually show slightly more females in science roles than male. The same is happening in England, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. Desires and feelings would attribute to artistic senses and emotional depth - though again, there's no strict indicator to measure this, other than what people say about themselves. Most writers are male, though over the past 50 years, it has become so close to being 50% male, 50% female that it would be insane to declare writing or the arts as a one-gender-dominated subject. However, the Physical scale is the most biased, I think. Of course, looking back throughout the ages you'd be more inclined to believe males are more physical - and, in circumstances where technology wasn't able to fulfill the needs of our physical labourers, yes, men were the physical aspect of human kind. But, there's no need for this anymore, and plenty of men barely have any kind of physical thoughts whatsoever. Some still do, no doubt about it - fights occur, ect, and in certain parts of the world there's still a strange association between muscle and power. But as gender equality makes further and further steps, you only see an increase in female physical traits.
It's an outmoded concept. I'm not sure where the idea that women manipulate men comes from. Perhaps in most American reality TV shows like Desperate Housewives and such nonsense, you do see some kind of twisted equilibrium between master and slave. But...I find it hard to see it actually happening in real, happy relationships, where gossip and sensationalism isn't the order of the day. I think perhaps this concept is born more out of culture than out of a real understanding of human nature.
Besides, like I say, there are no studies, tests, scientific or sociological data to back this up. There's no proof, no catalysts, no psychological inquires. Only a desperate definition of how someone thinks people work.
come to think of it, this would be better posted in r/TRPofftopic
