I dunno. There was some hamster in there for sure (the Chinese free love thing) but she actually consulted with some experts or actual facts on the wage gap, hookup culture, etc.

The "decline of men" thing was idiotic, as usual though.

[–]JG60 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There is a pie. Man has 90% of pie and woman 10%. Woman wants 50% of pie. Once woman gets 50% of pie she is confused as to why man has less pie.

TL:DR (I'm paraphrasing, but very nearly quoting her exact sentiments): Focusing on a career means you pass up the best years of your life in working and hooking up and reach midlife mourning your missed marriage and child-rearing opportunities. However, this is still Liberating, Brave, and Exciting. Even though it really sucks. Men are falling behind women because they're too lazy to complete their education. This means women have to marry down. But we don't really want to do that, so we hold out forever, until we're single and old. When men outnumber women men become more promiscuous and refuse to marry, leaving women to throw themselves into their work, which although unsupported by evidence and statistically having nothing to do with modern America, I will pretend is relevant. Despite the fact that men were willing to marry me, it is their fault that I am unmarried, because in wanting to marry me they revealed themselves to be creepy. Black men are all a bunch of criminals and nearly all black women marry down, with black men having no consciences, getting away with murder, and fucking as many black women as they like without consequence. Of course, if you are a successful black man, you won't marry either, because you will also fuck women without marrying them. Women at colleges are having frenzied sex because men want them to, despite the fact that they are unhappy at being forced into promiscuity. College women are fawning over college guys because the women outnumber them and there is a socially-enforced sexual double-standard. However, college women mostly abhor casual sex. I met with college girls who were slutty compared to me. The college girls I met with had an innocence and had hardly had sex at all. Being single is great apart form the social stigma. And the tormenting, unending loneliness. But other than that, I love it. Well, apart from the aching lack of kids. And the loneliness. But it's the fact that other people look down on me that needs to change. Also, I am not a slave to biology. Except, I really am. Anyway, marriage sucks and we should be free to have sex with whomever we want even after marriage. My ideal utopia is where women hold all the power in society, live in female-only communities, and have male concubines.

Apparently, this is the most-read and most-liked article the Atlantic has ever published. It got so much attention that the author was signed with Sony as a writer for a TV series of the same name as her article. Her thinking reminds me of THIS, not in a funny way, though.

Thanks for summing it up...I didn't have the endurance to read it to the end. And thanks for the Louis CK link...that was funny!

I used to feel sorry for my female acquaintances who were in their post wall stage and lamenting about not finding a good man...this article has helped me smash that myth. They are doing themselves in because they are allowing themselves to be the sole leader of their lives and they are fucking it up!

The choices they make are not thought through, their thinking process is all muddled up with reactionary feminist ideas (old ones at that), and their pride puts themselves on their own self created/society created pedestals that even they stop adoring after awhile and start staring out the window thinking that they have made it. This is high level hamstering and personally I am not surprised that this article was written but I am disappointed that any intelligent, single, attractive, post-wall women can read this and think..."yup...I am on the right track...it's not my fault the world isn't catching up with me so I will stay the course and pretend to be happy despite being miserable".

One thing I've noticed is that all humans are bad at predicting the future, but women are definitely worse than men. Women predict the future like a man with manic-depression. Feeling down? That means everything sucks, will always suck, and has always sucked. Feeling up? That means everything is great, will always be great, and has always been great. What they feel in the present is projected in every direction. This is why, when they break up with a guy, they tend to say that the relationship was always bad, or he was abusive, or whatever. It's also why they think that their 40s will be awesome; because they feel on top of the world in their 20s when they're making their big life choices. Guys are flocking to them, the workplace is shiny and inviting, their friends are having parties all the time, life is moving along well. They have an extremely difficult time extrapolating beyond their present feelings and experiences.

Very astute but maybe this one word says it all about the ladies.

[–]manwhy -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'll ignore your other points and simply point out that the gender ratio thing works the other way. Male:female ratio with more women increases promiscuity because the "product" is in greater supply. Male:female ratio with more men increases men's willingness to commit for less, which leads leads to less promiscuity.

One of the reasons the 1960s are known for the "hippy free love" thing is because for a significant amount of time the ratio was around 1:1.25.

[–]JG60 -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This all depends on how you define promiscuity. Look at a military community. Sure there are a lot of commitments like you say, however Army wives are about the least faithful group I could possibly imagine. When women outnumber men there is promiscuity on male terms (20/80 rule) when men outnumber women there is wide spread cuckolding and divorce rape.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

With military wives, it's also because their husbands are often away for long stretches doing something dangerous. Wives of husbands who are fishermen (like in Deadliest Catch) are also highly unfaithful. The next most unfaithful are barmaids and then psychologists.

[–]manwhy -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Military wives, specifically, are probably so unfaithful because: a) they have their husbands' resources rolling in, b) they have an empty bed and nobody to tell their husbands about their adultery when they return (low risk no-strings-attached sex), and c) they can probably do so with more attractive men than their husbands.

They already have the Best Provisioning, and there's very little risk to get the Best Genes.

But the male:female gender ratio thing applies to populations of eligible reproductive partners overall, and military wives can't really be cross-sectioned based on the occupation of their husbands. The smallest scale that I can think of is if all of the wives themselves were living in a city with, say, 5 "available" women for every 4 "available" man.

I'll be honest, I only read about half of that, it's far, far, too long winded. I still find it confounding how, at 39, this solipsistic moronic cunt thinks that with the advents of "modern medicine", she can just flip a switch tomorrow and get pregnant. Like it will be as easy as picking up some milk and bread on the way home from her "career".

[–]Algermas 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A truly epic though longwinded tale of The Wall and filled to the brim with reasons why you should never, ever get married to a close to- or past the wall woman.

In 2001, when I was 28, I broke up with my boyfriend. Allan and I had been together for three years, and there was no good reason to end things. He was (and remains) an exceptional person, intelligent, good-looking, loyal, kind. My friends, many of whom were married or in marriage-track relationships, were bewildered. I was bewildered. To account for my behavior, all I had were two intangible yet undeniable convictions: something was missing; I wasn’t ready to settle down.

She dumps her boyfriend only moments away from the wall because damnit her feels tell her she can do better.

Ten years later, I occasionally ask myself the same question. Today I am 39, with too many ex-boyfriends to count and, I am told, two grim-seeming options to face down: either stay single or settle for a “good enough” mate. At this point, certainly, falling in love and getting married may be less a matter of choice than a stroke of wild great luck. A decade ago, luck didn’t even cross my mind. I’d been in love before, and I’d be in love again. This wasn’t hubris so much as naïveté; I’d had serious, long-term boyfriends since my freshman year of high school, and simply couldn’t envision my life any differently.

Apparently not.

I remember experiencing that same panicked exhaustion around the time I turned 36, at which point I’d been in the dating game for longer than that alarmed 22-year-old had, and I wanted out. (Is there an expiration date on the fun, running-around period of being single captured so well by movies and television?) I’d spent the past year with a handsome, commitment-minded man, and these better qualities, along with our having several interests in common, allowed me to overlook our many thundering incompatibilities. In short, I was creeping up on marriage o’clock, and I figured, Enough already—I had to make something work. When it became clear that sheer will wasn’t going to save us, I went to bed one night and had a rare dream about my (late) mother.

Settling incoming, don't be the one a woman settles for.

Most striking to me was the innocence of these young women. Of these attractive and vivacious females, only two had ever had a “real” boyfriend—as in, a mutually exclusive and satisfying relationship rather than a series of hookups—and for all their technical know-how, they didn’t seem to be any wiser than I’d been at their age. This surprised me; I’d assumed that growing up in a jungle would give them a more matter-of-fact or at least less conventional worldview. Instead, when I asked if they wanted to get married when they grew up, and if so, at what age, to a one they answered “yes” and “27 or 28.”

“That’s only five or six years from now,” I pointed out. “Doesn’t that seem—not far off?”

They nodded.

“Take a look at me,” I said. “I’ve never been married, and I have no idea if I ever will be. There’s a good chance that this will be your reality, too. Does that freak you out?”

Again they nodded.

“I don’t think I can bear doing this for that long!” whispered one, with undisguised alarm.

Current generation of future worn out post wall womyn.

I found it a tiring read as well but what an ending - living the end of your life behind the walls of an urban-located former monastery for women, staring out the window, in bliss - well, hope she finds it blissful!

[–]UserNumber47 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Damn man, that's the longest piece of post-wall BS I've read 1/3rd from in my life. Seriously, I must have been reading for half an hour when I decided to see how much of it was left, surely I was near the end after all that reading... not even close!

[–]averageredpill 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Read it until the end. This is one piece of text that should be biblical. Hamster got the Wall at full speed and saw what the red pill is and still hamster it away with new form of patriarchy.

Great for the historic events that made men scarce and what governments did to avoid a collapse and for this little gem:

'In 1944, a new Family Law was passed, which essentially freed men from responsibility for illegitimate children; in effect, the state took on the role of “husband.” '

she has one thing going for her: her hamster gets paid by the word. and man, that's a lot of words.

good for her! not many hamsters are that lucky.

Honestly, is this even a bad thing? She's off the market, but so what, it's not like she would have been a catch anyway. It's like a neckbeard who swears off dating.

Things are easier this way.
