I've been in a long-term relationship for 10 years, but I'm not happy and haven't been for a long time. Fortunately, I am not married to her, and we don't have kids, but I'm having trouble saying goodbye.
She has the emotional maturity of a 4 year old, so any time I try to talk about anything serious, she starts crying. Last year, I tried to break up with her, told her everything that made me unhappy. She cried so hard, her eyes were puffy like a boxer's the next day. We ended up staying together and deciding on several things that needed to change for us to stay together. Those things changed... for a week.
It's a huge variety of reasons, some major, some minor, that make me realize the relationship has to end. Along with that, the more TRP posts I read, the more I realize that a woman does not deserve my commitment if she's not going to make the concessions and changes to her behavior that I require. And it isn't even major stuff I'm asking for... mostly a lot of little things like "don't shout at me from another room."
All that said, we have a lot of history, so it's hard for me to say goodbye. I know the second I try, she'll start crying again. What do I do to that?
