I feel like I should say something about the DC Metro train accident yesterday that has been the deadliest in Metro’s history. Until all the facts are in, there isn’t much to say. However, I do have some general thoughts related to the news.

  • We are going to see more of these sorts of preventable accidents as our once glorious American culture spirals downward into self-inflicted decay. The fruited plains are rotting. I would not be surprised if incompetence was ultimately the cause of this accident.
  • Although it doesn’t look like any terrorism was involved, the sight of mangled Metro rail cars does remind one how incredibly easy it would be to waltz into a Metro station, leave a backpack of C4 behind one of those air circulating pillars, and walk out untouched as the cacophony of a massive explosion ripping hundreds to shreds at rush hour echoes in the background.
  • Why the above hasn’t happened yet is a mystery.
  • The Green Line is a bigger adventure than backpacking through Central Asia.
  • DC is a town midway between being a car city and a mass transit city. Best option? Be well-off (read: free of children) and have access to both. I have a car, motorcycle (coming soon), mountain bike, Metrorail pass, and comfortable yet chronically hipster walking shoes.
  • Perez Hilton has a seriously gay face.
