I’ve seen some MRA talk about how the riots in London were a result of fatherlessness, poor treatment of boys, etc. Maybe they were to some trivial extent, but I don’t really buy it. In fact, what I see is a politically privileged group of people acting out because they know they can do so with impunity.
These kinds of riots are familiar to Americans. We’ve had them since the 1960s. Typically, they develop after some confrontation with police, as they did in London. Our most recent spate of mass disorder was a response to a natural disaster — hurricane Katrina. Katrina was shameful. Groups of looters took advantage of the breakdown of law and order to steal and kill. Some of them were NOLA police officers themselves, which just goes to show how much of a joke the law can be in the US.
Sure, there’s a racial component, but that certainly doesn’t excuse the murder and mayhem. Nor would fatherlessness or unemployment. And in the UK, it’s especially appalling, because the community that kicked it off was never dragged over there in chains, but rather welcomed by native Britons. Not good enough, I suppose…
About ten years ago, there was a brutal riot in Seattle during Mardi Gras. Having seen some indication that gangbanger types were showing up in large numbers, I avoided the festivities, because I knew trouble was brewing. However, it was even worse than I expected. A young man, Kris Kime, was beaten to death for trying to intervene in the vicious beating of an innocent person. Another man was similarly lynched in London a few days ago, and several South Asians protecting their neighborhood were deliberately run down and killed by a truck-driving rioter. Yet, unbelievably, we have some MRAs making excuses for these animals.
In Seattle during Mardi Gras, the police were ordered by the mayor to take a hands-off approach. Former Mayor Paul Schell has blood on his hands for that. Police have been so politicized as to be almost useless in these matters. When the putative point of contention is about some cherished grievance, the cops are not going to intervene meaningfully to restore order. This is nothing new; when southern whites under Jim Crow terrorized black communities, they routinely got off the hook. However, we’re dealing with a new kind of tyranny, and this ain’t the old South. Today, it’s the leftists’ pets who are unleashing mayhem.
It doesn’t matter whether the thugs in the streets are blacks, huns or low-class whites — they could have been Nazis invading from Calais in 1940 considering the way they behaved, and that’s exactly what they should have been treated as. Perhaps the most shameful thing about it is that those tasked with protecting the English people failed them so miserably. The English people themselves could have done a far better job protecting their cities than the so-called police, but they’ve been disarmed and pacified by their “leaders,” who will simply use this as an excuse to pry even more money out of the hands of responsible citizens in an effort to placate the bullies who conducted the mayhem.
Fortunately, some Englishmen did stand up, and there’s some video to prove it (HT Quartermain). These are the men I’m going to stand behind, and I hope their spirit picks up steam and challenges the sleazy crooks in Whitehall who fiddled as London burned:
