I wouldn't call it cognitive dissonance so much as the sheer complexity and nuance involved in what she's talking about. After having watched the video it's very clear to me she knows what she's trying to say, and is struggling to make that internal thought process understood externally. I'm leaning more toward the opinion that she simply isn't a great orator. Basically the last 30 seconds or so bring it all together. Paraphrasing for the sake of simplicity 'historically white men have fucked sh…

That's the rub of it there. This is all allegorical. It's meant for you to be able to pick out what's useful to you and discard the rest. All that being said I've yet to encounter any philosophical way of thinking that was 100% applicable 100% of the time. As it pertains to attracting women, this particular allegory is useful in examining ones thoughts/ideas/feelings on the issue of hypergamy, etc. When this way of thinking is applied to other areas of life, or other situations it is less approp…

I think the larger point went right by you my friend. The abberances of modernity ARE "the vinegar" so to speak. That is to say those things you saw fault with in the post, those are part of the "inner nature" of modern society. Legal systems, birth control, etc. The more you push against it, the worse it becomes...according to Taoist belief any how.

Yeah I don't need to see a movie. I've seen it first hand. I live with it all personally every day, and I volunteer directly with my wounded battle buddies to help save them from depression, PTSD, suicide, and DV. I've been a combat medic for a lot of years now, and I've seen the best and worst of what men and women are capable of.

It changes the context, but doesn't excuse it. As veterans we are expected to remain tough, strong, resilient, etc, etc. the one thing most people forget is that as soldiers we are expected to know our limits, know when to ask for help, and be able to identify the problem before it occurs. Sliding into self medicating PTSD with alcohol is a personal failing of many soldiers, it is a personal failing that I am guilty of. It can be hard to see it for what it is, and harder still to reach out for h…

And you have described perfectly why jurors are prohibited from watching the news coverage of high profile cases, and why familiarity with the media coverage of those cases will ensure a very quick exit from the jury pool.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
