Nothing is as dim-witted as that response. Go relax

It’s very strange how you keep calling me a dimwit ect. I have very different views to a lot of people in this sub but I don’t think they’re idiots for it. I don’t read what you say because of your aggressiveness as you put it. It’s boring. You should be more focused on your irritability than men’s rights, either that try to find a way to feel happy in your own learnedness rather than begging for it on a reddit post lel

Interesting. Maybe I’m just not scared women are manipulating my position / making excuses for deep seeded prejudices I have. I wonder if in all your years of wisdom if it’s ever occurred to that blabbing ‘you’re stupid’ at people who don’t agree with you is... wait for it, stupid?

T l d r everything - Feminism is a social and political movement. Feminism is about changing the way that people see male and female rights (mainly female), and campaigning for equal ones. Somebody who follows feminism is called a feminist. D a t s w a t I m a b o u t

I’m really sorry but basically I’ve written so many responses and I’m oh so weary. I don’t think you HAVE to identify as a feminist, at the end of the day if you have equality as an end goal and treat all people with the same respect ect, whatever you call yourself is as much everyone else’s business as you want to make it. I just feel like you should call yourself a feminist, particularly if you feel you are for gender equality, as labelling yourself differently but acting the same does no harm…

Yeah absolutely, those countries need it more so they should have a huge focus. For example FGM is common practice in some countries. It just doesn’t mean there is no need for it here.

Because it is the lead sentence, all it is doing is suggesting what the article is going to be about. The first bit of content is a stereotype, and the person that commented is not on the fence about it, it’s not worth talking about.

Things I’ve got from the responses - Largest issue that MRA believe in is for shared custody. I totally agree. I didn’t expect to randomly change everyone’s mind about feminism, but it’s interesting that the main reason people seem to be against it is because of courts / Gove favouring women in a few cases. I understand that is why there is a need for these things to change to be equal for men too. I agreed with these ideas before so it’s hard for me to change my mind about them. With any luck m…

Another age comment, I see. My dad is a feminist and my mum isn’t. When my siblings and I were 9/12/13, my mum had full custody over us and my dad left the country. I didn’t get on with my mum at all after she kept slating my dad who I understood was her complete financial support and she didn’t appreciate it. He moved back to the country a year later and then I was living with him by the time I was 14. Obviously he believes in equal custody, but there is someone older than you, wiser than you, …

There was a time when it was intellectually sound to believe the world was flat. Things change, feminism isn’t going to end up with you as a footstool for your female overlords.

The term “feminism” originated from the French word “feminisme,” coined by the utopian socialist Charles Fourier, and was first used in English in the 1890s, in association with the movement for equal political and legal rights for women. Lots had racist views yes. But you can get a racist who thinks women are great but just hates Asian people. Also times have changed, 1890s housewives should not be why you hate feminism lol.

Of course I can. You’ll struggle a lot more to find a someone who believes men hates men compared to the amount of people that believe women hate men, hence the statement. It doesn’t need to apply to you, you clever devil

She attempts to force a mathematical logic to answer questions. ‘If this is this men MUST be bad’. That isn’t true and it’s not how feminism works
/r/MensRights17/01/18 12:12 PM

Yes you should. Feminism is bad and you should feel bad for supporting it. Ask yourself why you're so actively opposing equality for men? Is it internalised misandry? Or have you simply been mindlessly caught up in the gynocentrism that thoroughly permeates our society, and as a result you've never thought deeply about true gender equality? ^ When have I been against equality for men? You’re being a little aggro and running on assumptions. I’m for male equality just as much as female, I can stil…

A couple people so far have summarised their opinions of my view with ‘folly of youth’ ‘it’s because you’re young ‘ect ect. That’s as useful as me telling an elderly Brexit voter ‘you voted Brexit because you’re old and racist’. It’s stupid. Think about it.

If you can support women’s rights without being a feminist, I don’t see why you shouldn’t be a feminist. If you truly are for equality of the sexes, it’s much more beneficial to both your views of what men need and of what women need to be a feminist who doesn’t ignore the situations where men feel they are disadvantaged.

It’s always best to know what you’re in support of, with regards to your previous feminist views. But even then, 16 is quite young. You probably don’t start to really think about a lot of issues until slightly after then. (Look at political involvement figures for a similar idea). I’ve been exposed to the alternative, unfortunately I’ve had one occasion where I’ve witnessed women sexually harass a dude, and countless where men harass underage women/of age women. I totally agree with a bunch of p…

I’ve spoken to lots of feminists about a couple issues men have with equality, for example child custody / parental leave / false rape claims etc. They do all agree. They don’t have an issue with you saying a few things aren’t great for men too, because it’s absolutely true.

Enlighten me a little on this sexual harassment. Where I live I think I can recall one account where two women wolf whistled out of a car at a guy walking out my gym and said ‘nice legs’. The dude spoke back to them at the window and told them what they were doing was sexist and to fuck off. These women were in the wrong, dudes reaction was spot on. It’s not that this stuff can’t happen to men, it’s just far far far less common.

Of course people have different views of equality. For certain my view of feminism is very different to my girlfriend’s/friends/a lot of the girls who did my course at uni. A lot of women will support MRA views if asked about it, the only reason it isn’t spoken about more is because the issues feminism addresses are far more numerous. It’s also feminism, it’s focused on changing the female aspect, like black lives matter or similar movements focus on the lives of those groups. The issues surroun…

When people hear the word feminist, even if the first image that comes to their mind is an overweight angry lesbian, they still tend to associate the word with women’s rights. ^ stopped reading after the first sentence. I’m in good shape, straight and male. First image and the same reason so many people here think they should hate feminism is because of that old media stereotype.

Feminism is called feminism because it is the particular advocacy for female equality. It works in the same way that racism is again about portraying racial prejudices. You should have a look at the status of women when it was coined, or shortly after. For example women not having the vote/right to education etc etc. It’s called feminism because it certainly wasn’t unreasonable to say women had it worse off.

I totally understand the desire to identify yourself as an egalitarian over a feminist because of the connotations, like I said I used to be like that too. The only reason I’ve changed is because I feel it is harmful to any gender equality to allow such a stigma to exist about the word feminism, I feel like it’s important to be an example of a non crazy feminist like you so often see in the media. Anyway nice talking with you, chilled discussion

Of course they exist. When did I say I believed women are oppressed? I wouldn’t say racial minorities are oppressed either, they are all disadvantaged in different ways. You look to define feminism in the worst fashion to justify your hatred of it. Either that or you’ve only allowed yourself to be exposed to what you believe a typical feminist is. If it’s all you’ve seen it isn’t unreasonable to assume all are like it. Women in some countries are oppressed, in some countries disadvantaged. Just …

Communism is flawed, as capitalism and so on. The definitions of these forms of government is very very different to that of feminism, their definitions explain the way in which a society attempts to run itself. For example, capitalism ‘an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.’ Sounds great. People make money and can own their own things. Obviously it has flaws, but they are not in the definiti…

Of those 500 companies mentioned in the article, only around 20 of them have female CEOs, which causes the data to be biased. This combined with the fact that its using a sample surrounding some of the 500 richest businessmen and women on the planet makes it more than a little unsuitable for use as a conclusive summary of the pay gap. Just because there are articles written attempting to present the contrary, closer investigation of the statistics used in these articles always reveals their bias…

If you ‘feel’ a woman is a better mother and you ‘feel’ men are better in STEM fields, it doesn’t make it so. You simply have the image of a woman as a nurturing figure. I know a lot of great dads and comparatively bad mothers. Similarly I know a lot of excellent business women and students who are female, and a lot of very poor male counterparts. There is no basis for your assumptions. There’s also behavioural studies which show children benefitting from having more time with their father at a …

Absolutely. Although it is rare that there is only ever enough work for 1 out of 2 parents to be in full time employment. (Obviously it depends on your location amongst other things, but where I live there is always a huge amount of jobs being advertised) However should a lack of available work be the case, a few other issues are created. One is the expectation for the man to work and the wife to be at home with the kids. For some families this will work, but there are a lot of families with amb…

I was exploring a hypothetical situation to show the morality behind essentially paying half a workforce less because their genitals cause their well being to be more expensive. What about with regards to my suggestion of equal maternal and paternal leave? Feminism benefits men too, it wants men to have an equal place at home, as well as work. The total time off work would be the same, only this time split between both parents, thus making neither gender more expensive to an employer.

Equal outcomes was never mentioned. It means equality between the sexes, that is all feminism aims to do. Playing with what you’ve suggested, if women have higher medical costs why would it make sense for them to be paid less? If anything it would make more sense for them to be paid more in order to ensure their well-being. Not that feminism seeks for superior wages to men anyway, so this is purely hypothetical. It’s good you mention maternity leave actually. Would it not make more sense for men…

I also meant to comment on the homeless men statistics. It is similar to the male suicide rate. The issue is not to do with society being too generous to women, the problem lies with men. Most men don’t speak about their issues as much and their depression can spiral out of control as a response. I had a friend this time last year kill himself, (uk), without mentioning how he felt to any of our very tight group of mates since secondary school. Women are more open to talk about their feelings, it…

America is far better off than most countries, but it still isn’t quite equal. The ‘danger’ and ‘risk’ of jobs also doesn’t affect the pay gap. For example, look at a soldiers wage compared to that of most other professions, obviously the military has its risks, but that does not mean it pays well. It’s also jobs like this in which women aren’t treated, only very recently are being allowed to fight on the front lines for the example. Also in the anticipation of a ‘men are physically better suite…
