Yup. It couldn't be the men and boys who have spent generations being devalued, demonized, called misogynists, rapists, and pedophiles... Nope, the real victims here are the women who aren't haaaaappy. WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE POOR LONELY WOMEN?

The thing that made me angry was the feeling that I've had something important stolen from me. I know I'd be a better parent than 95% of the people on earth, but being aware of the risks involved means I can't be that man whose great-grandchildren love to be around. Having that future stripped away by the necessity of self-preservation... it hurts. And it pisses me off. Not traveling the traditional path means that I have more time and resources. I can use those to further my own goals for socie…

Was the other person too drunk to know what they were doing? Doesn't matter, you were raped." But you only get to that question if you answered "yes" to "Did the other person know they were having sex with you against your will?" Then the whole thing is nonsense. If someone is too drunk to know what they're doing they by definition cannot know that they are having sex with you against your will, because they're too drunk to know what they're doing. The first question is important to establish me…

Context. This student was bragging to friends. A school with a zero-tolerance sex policy basically has their hands tied here. They can enforce the policy or they can set precedent that the policy is toothless. Religious schools tend to be more forceful when it comes to female promiscuity, not less, so if you have a male teacher and a female student who brags repeatedly to her friends, she's going to get the book thrown at her, too.

Yes, in the same way that we've seen D.A.'s offices and crown prosecutors infer that for years. This is the state of the legal system.

The very end. "Was the other person too drunk to know what they were doing? Doesn't matter, you were raped." Applied equitably, this leads to the notion that both parties were raped. Present legal and social climate interprets that as male rapist and female victim.

Misleading title. Private religious schools often have policies strictly stating disciplinary action for students who aren't abstinent. It's likely he was expelled for willfully violating that policy (repeatedly) and not for being the victim of statutory rape. File this one as WBB or in /r/pussypass if she gets a lenient sentence if you like, but this situation would likely be the same with reversed genders.

Standard disclaimer: generalities exist. Insisting they don't makes you a moron, insisting they apply to every individual makes you a bigot. Also, I'm not a psychologist, psychiatrist, or medical doctor - just an observer of humanity. Take this with appropriate grains of salt. Women have, due to socialization, an inherent belief that they are worth helping. If they ask for help, they tend to believe that they will get it. They also tend away from methods that will be disfiguring, preferring pill…

Oregon State '12 here, it's nowhere near as bad as what OP describes but it's on the way. Asking why there can be a women's center with no corresponding men's center gets the standard "men have the whole campus" BS. Looking around at the 60-40 F-M ratio somewhat belies that.

Substance abuse is nearly always self-medication. Something is wrong and the person doesn't have the tools or support system to deal with it, so they self-medicate. Alcohol, drugs, hobbies taken to unhealthy extremes - these are all possible ways of coping with trauma. Given that men are constantly told that they need to be independently strong through the worst life throws at them, most don't have those close friends to support them. Those that do tend to lose them in marriage and be in just as…

Why WOULDN'T a woman want to get married in this country? Because she is aware of the moral hazard of violence-by-proxy and wants none of it. Frankly, if you describe your concerns about marriage backed by facts and a woman keeps pushing for it? Get out. "Here's the gun you'd have pointed at my head for the rest of my life or until you pulled the trigger" being followed by "oh yes I want that" is a clear sign that she doesn't give a damn about you.

I suppose I wasn't as clear as I thought first thing in the morning. I avoid citation-flooding with someone who is keen to debate, because it keeps them talking and allows me to more accurately select my arguments. They may also have something of worth that I can adopt myself. It's when countering someone who will likely not respond that I "show my work" entirely up front. With likely no response from the other person I have but one comment/post/whatever to get my argument in front of bystanders…

Two wrongs don't make a right. IPV is not a gendered issue. Let's not lower ourselves to the level of feminists on this.

Not bad, overall. This little gem of rewriting history is pretty disingenuous, though: In the 1970s...Phyllis Schlafly led opposition to the Equal Rights Amendment. But such anti-feminism was invariably about defending women’s traditional roles. Whitewashing the part influential feminists played in defeating the ERA because "it would be a step backwards". This has never been about equality for those running the show.

Studies have shown time and again that in-group bias (as you put it: "bros before hoes") is strong in women and nearly nonexistent in men. So women are concerned with the welfare of women, and men are concerned with the welfare of women too. The moment men decide that they should support other men we get "misogyny! Mansplaining! Oppressors!" When women do the same they get "gender-traitor! Internalized misogyny! Oppression!" Who's reinforcing traditional gender roles here? It certainly isn't the…

I would tend to argue that those actions are part and parcel of the ideology itself, but I can see where you're coming from. I find that arguing against feminists rather than feminism can turn into ad hominem and overbroad generalizations very quickly, and that's not really helping anyone.

The reason so many of us here are anti-feminist is because our reasonable requests are endlessly blocked by those "asshole feminists". Claiming NAFALT (which is true) doesn't change anything because enough feminists are like that, and the vast majority who aren't sit on their hands and do nothing to self-police their movement. All that is required for evil to flourish is for good people to sit by and do nothing. You want anti-feminism to go away? Clean up your movement and take out the trash.

Don't stoop to the level of telling people how they are defined. Telling them that they should define themselves some other way? Sure! Defining them absolutely, with you as the sole arbiter? No better than the "real men" shaming that's all too common. I'm a humanist. Part of rational discourse is citing your sources. Another part is realizing that if Bob says something sensible it's worth considering even if Bob is a raving lunatic. Citation of sources isn't about the credibility of the source, it's about exposing the source of your information so that all involved can make their own judgment about the claim. That said, thank you for the corroborating source!

You are correct in that this doesn't fall into the rape category, however there is a strong argument that it should fall under the purview of sexual assault.

Yep, we avoid linking to summaries that ignore the very data they collected. Read the whole study. On a 12-month scale (the time frame with the fewest memory artifacts) men were found to be made to penetrate (nonconsensual sex) at a nearly identical rate to that at which women were "made to envelop" (nonconsensual sex). It was decided that only one of those would be counted as rape and the other completely ignored. They give the rationale and everything if you're willing to dig 40-odd pages into…

The problem is that if the fact of the matter were that men were doing most of the raping, the statistics would also read this way. Couldn't it be that the science is correct, the deck isn't stacked, and we should look at the problem for what it is, honestly? That's a hypothesis worth pursuing. Step 1 is to make the legal definitions of rape reflect a nongendered crime. Step 2 then becomes to look into the resulting data. But you can't take step 2 with definitions that exclude male victims of fe…

Having a forced-to-penetrate statistics should happen regardless of the political dimensions of the discussion. Science is about discovery and finding out something new, something no one has known before. But would this phenomenon be rape? My gut says no, that there is something about "penetration" and "rape" that are somehow coextensive, and that forced-envelopment is a problem that needs its own sphere or thought and research, but I fully admit that could be my intuition talking. Rape is under…

Where on earth is easier?? Ballroom, swing, or Latin dance lessons - the "no partner required" ones are perennially female heavy in every town I've had the pleasure of visiting. In some of the more reasonable areas it's even common for the women to make the approach.

We are victims. we asked why we are not taken as adults A victim has no agency in the area of their victimhood. One proclaiming to the skies that they are a victim has abrogated their agency, but one cannot be an adult while insisting on having no agency. To be an adult, a fully realized human, one must embrace all that comes with that label. You can't pick and choose like some cosmic buffet line, total commitment is necessary.

It all comes down to the social idea that men are disposable and women are valuable. Men are disposable, so their preferences and pain are immaterial. Women are valuable, so their preferences guide the world and their pain sets policy. Men will fight for women more than for themselves and the reverse is not true. This is why MGC is seen as okay in the mainstream but FGC is anathema.

We should really reframe cases like these. It's always "a crime he didn't commit", like there was a bank robbery and they got the wrong guy. The accuser still gets to play the victim because the narrative acknowledges that there was a crime committed. He was convicted and imprisoned for a crime which never happened. He was exonerated because he didn't rape her but also because no rape occurred.
/r/MensRights20/02/14 06:37 PM

I misspoke. My own fault for trying to get that across on a mobile platform on a short time. The definition does not exclude male victims per se. What it excludes by defining rape as non-consensual penetration and not (as goes the common definition today) as non-consensual sex is female perpetration, especially of the brand that's been hidden in the corner as "made to penetrate". This leads back around to the perception that woman can do no wrong and men are only victimized by other men. By remo…
