This post can be misleading to newbies though. Most newbies don’t need to be going to the gym more than 3 times per week. Novice lifters tend to make the mistake thinking they need to be doing two-a-days and 6 days per week and cardio on the 7th. It really just comes down to stimulation paired with good sleep and good diet. Starting strength is the best straight to the point book out there.

No you need a teacher if you’re going to get good enough to use bjj in a fight. You should get a buddy to spar with. Just find a guy and use 16oz gloves preferably and just beat the shit out of each other. This is how you get good. Its not the safe way but you will learn how to fight this way. Chances are, your guy hasn’t even had a punch thrown at him yet and you will have had hours of fighting under your belt. This is what I would do in this situation if there were no bjj schools around.

If you want to get even better frame, start doing a high stress sport such as MMA, or Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu competitions are probably the most nerve-racking thing I’ve done in my life and I’ve been more stoic in the face of uncertainty ever since I started.
