That or at least get some friends to snap pictures of you in social settings that aren't staged and slap on some shitty filters if needed. Selfies are the worst.

Most pick up artists have a plan when doing so, and they stick to it and adjust it on the go accordingly. Once you find a "plan" that works for you, you will also use it more consistently. There's not much "natural" about the initial encounter with a girl, it's all based on past experience, whether you're consciously thinking about it or not.

No you don't. You can easily start with a joke or pick up line and break into a different topic very quickly. You can also just ask a question about a photo. But more so, if a girl is just there because she's DTF and you don't acknowledge her looks and try to strike up casual convo, then you're in the same place where she doesn't give a shit and will likely ignore you.

I think you should use these types of things as a template. Not copy. Much like taking notes for study, change it and make it suit you, learn from it, don't learn it.
