Thank you for taking him serious and not being dismissive. I agree with the other commenter that professional help is the way to go.

You could check out r/MenSkirts if you want. I have seen a lot of different type of skirts, and the overall atmosphere of the sub seems great from what I can tell. I think there is also other, comparable subs for guys wearing heels etc. I'm not aware of a like-minded sub for specifically dresses but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one too. That being said, like other commenters pointed out, there is quite a lot of choice you have as a guy, if you're willing to wear less conventional clothin…

I'm going into that field, first year of my education and my internship has been a great experience so far. The school I do my internship at has almost no male colleagues, apart from (very stereotypically) the janitor, IT guy, director and PE teacher. I've been there for like 10 days or something now (we go 1 day a week throughout the semester, and have 2 weeks where we go 5 days). Most kids trust me by now, almost all the boys in the class kinda gravitate towards me (I'm assuming because of the…

The fact that you don't see the flaw in your logic leads me to believe I'm wasting my time here, but if you insist: There is a big difference in characteristics that 'define' a group of people, someone has no control over (biological sex, skin colour, sexual orientation etc) and characteristics that define a group of people that they did have control over, like murdering or raping a fellow human. Is it really this hard to grasp or are you trying to die on this hill of devil's advocate?

I understand you're trying to make a good point, but that's a false equivalence. The whole reason for calling someone out on this argument is because that's not how PEOPLE are supposed to treat other PEOPLE. which is made clear by substituting one group of people for the other to showcase the ridiculous nature of the argument. Not substituting for another group of people but for an entirely different species completely nullifies what you are trying to accomplish with the analogy. Sorry for the c…

That's some quality victim blaming right there. Just because you are fortunate enough to the point that you possibly can't fathom his situation wasn't his own doing, doesn't mean it was his own doing.

I'm sorry to hear that, being excluded from communities and the like, due to inexperience or lack of expertise when you haven't had the chance to build that experience or expertise is tough, and must feel incredibly demotivating. As a guy that is also currently on a career path towards a field dominated by women, I can relate to multiple things you wrote. I do believe there is hope though. It will take time, energy, willpower and personal growth, but I think it's worth it. I tend to become very …

"He who has high standards from himself and low standards for others" I discussed this particular topic in therapy some time ago, and it seems a lot of people go by something similar (not only guys but a lot of guys do treat themselves in such a way). It seems so natural to us to be more forgiving to our fellow humans than to ourselves, but why? At first glance it might seem "forgiving" as you say, but there is a certain sense of arrogance or superiority involved in this line of reasoning, along…

I was circumcised at a young age (around 6 years old iirc) for medical reasons. The details aren't too pretty, but you really seem to want to know so here goes (trigger warning for some people just in case): My foreskin was too tight. At first they recommended some "physical therapy" I suppose you would call it (gentle stretching and massaging to loosen it), but that didn't help. So what would happen, if it was pulled back to clean, I couldn't put it "back on", which was very painful since the g…

I mean it's the type of outrage culture that is more apparent today. People furiously browsing the fringes of their social platforms to find something off putting, then proceed to get offended by it and share said offended feelings with their echo chamber for validation of their world views. To be fair some posts on this sub fall into this category at times too. It's confirmation bias. If you go on a typical "feel good no wrong here" sub like r/mademesmile , you will find thousands of comments t…

I will admit the word authoritative has a mostly negative connotation in my mind which you accurately pointed out, maybe authoritative and harsh aren't quite the same indeed. I can't really wrap my head around the statement that a man ought to "lead his wife, but do so by serving her", ruling and serving sound contradictory to me. Why not get rid of the dichotomous language and just leave it at "complementing each other". I suppose I prefer "caring for" over "serving". A relationship is always g…

I was gonna quote the exact same part, although I think you should also quote the sentence before for proper context of the statement, since it is a direct response to that, and not to the main content of the article. Abhorrent nonetheless. "Yet what of female teachers who’ve become sexually involved with young students? “These are damaged, needy, lonely women,” says Pearce, “not necessarily pedophiles.”"

I don't deny there is a difference between men and women, I do however believe that a lot of the stereotypes concerning men and women our society has reinforced in recent history are outdated. I do also recognise the difference between the generation above me and my own. In my parent's relationship my father is clearly the figure of authority. I myself wouldn't want to be in a relationship with someone where I'm supposed to adhere to what society thinks of what a man should do as the male in the…

Equal with regards to authority. Authority inherently implies there is a more powerful and a less powerful party in the dynamic, whether that be on the workfloor or in a personal relationship.
/r/MensRights05/07/21 02:10 PM

In the "modern" relationship I don't really think anyone has the authority over their partner. Maybe over your kids, but if you're an authoritative figure in your relationship, doesn't that quite literally insinuate it's not a relationship where both parties are equal? I mean when I look at my parent's relationship it is quite obvious who has the authority, but in the relationships around my age that doesn't seem to be so clear cut, it's more about taking turns in taking initiative and balance i…

I think the original comment was referring to how the attorney mentions that nobody seemed to care for her when someone should have, and how this is very normal for how society treats men with a past filled with abuse and what not.

I think both men's and women's beauty standards set on social media are quite unattainable. For most men it's steroids/Photoshop and for women it's Photoshop/plastic surgery/extreme make up. The entire system revolves about setting a standard that is nigh impossible to meet, but "hey we got this supplement/training program/life hack etc that will help you look just like me!". Keeping the consumer in an eternal place of self hate for not reaching said standards so they can be milked financially.

Chris Rock is the person you quoted apparently without knowing where that wisdom originated from. Secondly, yes it is your choice to provide. The fact that you manage to interpret this post in a negative manner says so much more about you than the post. I think you make a very valid point, each group is at risk of corruption, or to have individuals using the group label in bad faith. My personal view is that these communities are stuck in the following cycle; a vocal subgroup in group A voices criticism about a vocal subgroup of group B, which generalises to bring a point across. The members of group B that aren't part of said subgroup feel wrongfully judged/accused, voice their criticism of group A, which in reality is aimed at a vocal subgrou…

I find it hard to take you seriously when you're pointing out I'm wrong without bothering to explain why I'm wrong, or what is wrong about my statement. I don't mind being corrected, as long as you actually take the time to correct me. This low effort comment doesn't really do anything to contribute to the discussion though.

The term itself originated from a woman called Alana according to Wikipedia and was more of a psychological term to bring people that suffer from similar involuntary celibacy together. The negative connotation is largely how society decided to adopt the word, as seen with a lot of terms over time (much like how the word retard/retarded was at first simply a medical term).

I certainly think the purpose of the original comment was to insult, more by using the word incel than the words right wing. And I think you're definitely right that in a lot of cases the right is labelled as white supremacists and all that, it's just that in this particular case it didn't happen, so let's not get ahead of ourselves and assume they meant something we aren't sure about. It might turn out they DID mean what you thought it meant, and in that case your argument is very justified, bu…

You realise you're strawmanning here right? *I'm interpreting 'right-wing' as 'Nazi fascists' because right-wing isn't an insult in its most literal form. You're literally admitting that you interpret the comment in a more extreme and insulting way than necessary so you can then proceed to dismantle the more extreme version. I'm not agreeing with what the post you discussed claimed either, but we have to be as critical of ourselves as we are of others if we want to keep some credibility.

You're choosing to engage in what is clearly a sarcastic post as if it were serious, but wouldn't you judge a feminist that does the same for some shitpost over here with the roles reversed? The problem with this line of reasoning lies in the over generalisation. This Erik Robinson you speak of (sorry I'm out of the loop on that one) also sounds like a bad father figure. I think there is only a very small percentage of people in the world that truly believe women and men shouldn't earn the same amount of money for the same amount of work. Also there is nothing wrong with demanding that, but it's weird to demand it and to claim that there is a pay gap when there isn't. No one here has an issue with women and men earning the same, they have an issue with women pretending like they have it worse when they don't. This means that if we go by what they are claiming an…

If you think there is only feminists out there that hate men and love to shit on the entire male gender, you are just as brainwashed by outrage culture as the feminists that think all men are rapists etc. I know you don't like to hear it, but the majority of people that classify as feminist aren't as extreme as you might think. Almost every group has the reputation of their label negatively impacted by the extreme outliers. It's ironic that that is one of the main things you try to fight against…

I think you hit the nail on the head here. The problem isn't the joke or the punchline, I actually think it's pretty funny and clever. And you shouldn't feel bad for laughing over something like this, that's what humour is for. The problem is when there's a group of people that don't appreciate the post being a good joke but instead find joy in the unironic interpretation.

I'm sorry to hear that something so awful happened to you, and I admire your courage to speak up about it. No one should have to go through something so traumatizing. And it also doesn't matter who you are, no one should be doing something so traumatizing to another person. Thank you! And unfortunately you're very right that men's value for society is based on the wrong type of characteristics. This actually also goes for women in other, but similar ways. I think it's very important to keep in mind that these standards we're trying to fight against are exactly what you said; society's standards. I think a common mistake is that we assume that some individual is judging us based on these norms, before we have any evidence to base our assumptions on. Of course there …

"Nervous" isn't bad. It means you're cautious/on the look out for potential danger. The key word here is potential. But you're not treated like there is a very slim chance you could be a bad apple. You're considered to be bad until they are 100% sure you're not. It seems to be the common theme in these stories; you're treated like you're guilty until proven innocent beyond reasonable doubt, instead of being treated like you're innocent. That's just wrong. But they don't care about how it makes y…

I'm not from the USA so I'm not up to date with the comparison but I think I understand the point you're trying to make with: Groups only call out excess when they are the target... not the perpetrator. I'm fully aware this is usually the way things work, and I hope we agree that although this is commonly observed, it should not be the case. It is exactly the type of behaviour I'm talking about. We should not be doing that, we should be as critical of ourselves as we are of others. If we only "c…

If we're talking about an actual fistfight where your physical safety is threatened then I agree, but in this context the use of the metaphor seems out of place. When using the strategies and tactics used by the opponent that we deem wrong, we invalidate ourselves. You can't advocate for people to stop using a certain flawed argumentation when you're using the same argumentation in that discussion. I mean you could, but you're hurting your own point as much as theirs. Not stooping to their level…

5'7 according to the article, but it shouldn't matter anyway. "Not that short" still implies there's some kind of value to be contributed to his height, which doesn't make any sense. Arguing "he's short, therefore 'argument X'" with "he's not short" doesn't disprove that short and "argument X" are related. We're not trying to disprove that he's short, we're trying to disprove that there's a correlation between height and whatever the claim is. In this case the lose ad hominem seems to have no ot…

Do you know about any situations where this was attempted but failed, or are you basing your hypothesis on your worldview? Because although I think trying that it would likely show us that it is not going to have the result we hope for, it's worth a try for sure. If that is what it would take for a single father to be able to enjoy going to the park with his child, it's worth the sacrifice I'd say.

Reminds me of an infographic I saw some time ago that went something along the lines of "1 in 7 journalist casualties abroad are female, this needs to stop!". Horrendous title. You're not only spreading misinformation, you're portraying the very behaviour and tactics that we condemn and judge others for. "...fully aware that she was being insanely abusive and mentally deranged." Unfortunately I highly doubt that. The way she acts makes me think she does not consciously realise she's being harmful and abusive. In her mind she has justified her behaviour and created her own twisted version of reality where she is the victim that's lashing out in self defence. Her partner is the one at fault in her eyes, hiding her phone, not supporting her enough, etc. It might be hard to grasp from a logical stan…

If your significant other is not the person you can share your darkest moments, thoughts and experiences with, how significant are they is my question. I understand there is still a lot of other, practical things about a relationship, but if you feel like you cannot share what really bothers you with your partner because they might judge you or leave you, you need a different partner imo. You hit the nail on the head sir. The sole fact that we cannot do any right by their standards should be proof that the standards are unreasonable, unrealistic and based on hypocritical thinking. Unfortunately trying to point that out usually doesn't have any effect because the moment you hit this sweet spot within their argument they just ignore it, try to change the subject or resort to some other deflective manoeuvre.
