Scarlett as well, and that's the question, isn't it? There are easily less trans folks playing games, so why do they have greater representation than cis-women? Could be a lot of reasons, not all of them biological, but it's really interesting to think about.

This is actually a fascinating question, and Thooorin has a pretty interesting video on it. One huge standout for me is that, yes, it could be a coincidence, but Scarlett(sp) and Remillia throw a wrench in the idea of underrepresentation or it simply being a smaller player base.

Look, I'm on your side here, but I actually found the anti-circumcision group to be overly antagonistic and their actions unacceptable. Look at this headline, "Incoherent," "freaks out." This isn't about a hypothetical situation. According to the law, shakha is completely right. Whether or not a woman would be treated equally in the eyes of the law is a separate discussion. In THIS situation, the man becomes the unlawful aggressor, both are at fault. Now separate discussion, I agree with you that a woman likely wouldn't be held responsible for becoming the unlawful aggressor in a reversed situation. That's wrong, absolutely.

It sounds like a good exception to make, but It gets a little sticky once you delve into the what ifs though. Like what if you think a crime is being committed, so you record, and a crime wasn't. Was that illegal? Or what if you're illegally recording, and you happen to catch a crime. Is that illegal? There are some situations where it's good to make evidence of a crime inadmissible. Two party laws don't exist to stop people from protecting themselves. They exist to protect people from secret recordings that could be used to harm them. Or even just to protect privacy. I agree that this boy should not have been punished for recording bullies, and that school officials should have used some discretion. But the law is more complicated than any single issue.

Umm, why? Having protection against people secretly recording you is a good thing. I would agree that in this case it should not have been made a criminal matter, but surely you can see why the law exists the way it does. Senior PR student here. I'm one of four men in my classes this year, almost an 8/1 ratio. So, yeah, of course it's mostly women, it's PR. Instead of assuming everyone is sexist, I think this is a great opportunity to bring up the element of choice in career selection as it relates to the "wage gap."

You pretty much nailed it. You have to find a way to communicate your message in a way that your audience will react positively to. There's an entire industry built around that concept and at a certain point I see the MRM having to hire such a person to help tool their message.

While I appreciate your decrying Jezebel, the sad truth is that it is currently one of the most influential blogs, of any category, today (ranked 17th overall by Technorati). When the "shittiest most reactionary aspects" of a group are also the most influential, you've got a real problem. But please, continue to be vocal about Jezebel being an embarrassment to feminism. Unpopular opinion time. She was 28 and he was 16, if this were another state all we'd be dealing with is the issue of her being a teacher. On top of that, the victim clearly doesn't see himself as a victim since he doesn't want her prosecuted. Woah woah woah, where are you getting your legal information from? I am not a lawyer, but pretty much everything I can find along with common sense is saying that illegally obtained recordings would not be admissible in court and all you would do is admit to a crime. I am all for finding a way to protect yourself but this is most likely not it! Edit: Downvote instead of answering if it makes you feel better, it's still a stupid idea.

Your second point is exactly what made me more aware of men's rights issues. I had a teacher in a college class that was discussing gender representation in media. Referring to women at the time, she told us to switch the gender and see if a situation still seemed fair. I did see a lot of issues for women, but I saw plenty of issues for men as well and it amazed me how little we were talking about it.

My mistake, I just double checked again and I think "reckless indifference to an unjustifiably high risk to human life" would cover her actions. So yeah, second-degree. In my experience, I run into many people who genuinely believe that believing in equality makes them a feminist. That sentiment has, unfortunately in my opinion, gained traction and many people identify with it. For those people, I have a hell of a lot of common ground with them. It's probably a joke that she thinks only men should be taxed and taxed a lot. There's definitely a hint of not completely serious there. But I don't think it was a "this is ridiculous" joke, I think it was an exaggeration to provide a venue to complain about issues she feels that men are responsible for. Not that it matters, her criticisms are misandristic enough to stand on their own.
