Feminist writers are pushing back hard against the Pence rule. For some reason, up until recently I was under the (false) impression that this rule was mostly uncontroversial. Men choose not to place themselves in potentially compromising situations, women are subjected to less harassment, false accusations are less likely to happen, everybody wins. Nope! The other day I was told, loudly and in no uncertain terms, how this oppresses women. The woman I was talking with at the time got so angry sh…

Become an electrician, they are in short supply in a lot of places. There will always be a need for this just for maintenance or renovation, and with expansions in renewable energy and automation, demand will be increasing for a while. If you must go to college, research a career you're confident will be lucrative and tolerable, then stick with it. Or study business and be methodical in pursuing it. Ignore distractions as much as you can, because there will be better ones later on.

As has been pointed out, it may be a more localized phenomenon right now, but it is really hard to ignore that most guys being accused are seriously aging, "uncool" or unattractive (to say nothing of how despite doing the same shit all the time, absolutely zero women are being accused). What are the odds that this wave hasn't hit at least a few young, attractive, popular straight guys yet? What lessons might people be drawing from this, as opposed to what lessons we should draw?

These things do not exist. That seems like a ludicrous statement. Are you just being pedantic? Name one culture that has absolutely 100% perfected the ideal power balance between genders. Every family unit leans more one way than the other. It may fluctuate over time, but the power balance is never going to be a nice, round 50/50. I see these phrases simply as shorthand for describing parts of the world how they are. I don't think either represents any kind of ultimate ideal. equally as bad Ther…

Context is everything, though. This is why judges exist. If you happened to live in a matriarchal society which heavily oppresses men, a woman grabbing a man's ass is a greater cruelty than in a patriarchal society which heavily oppresses women. The repercussions will be different. Now replace "society" with "small town that actually exists right now". Again, this is why judges exist. The same exact physical action, from a physically similar woman to a physically similar man, can have radically …

Good counterpoint. Still, good to keep in mind that some girls end up having more issues to work through than others, and it has a lot to do with upbringing.

The phrase I was planning to use in my comment was "take ownership", looks like that won't be necessary. Also extra emphasis on this: I dont blame depression. I blame me for not handling it better. Once we realize that whatever our disadvantages, the world does not give a single fuck and will just steamroll us all that much more easily, it's on us to handle things. You can let it gradually kill you, which is understandable I suppose, but you'll be missing out on so much. The experience of conque…

Which is weird for someone who mostly does comedy. I understand not tolerating disrespect, but usually a better way to handle these situations is having comebacks ready so you can roll with it. It is sometimes appropriate to walk away from taunting fools, but in the entertainment industry, putting up with them is kinda part of the job. Be aloof. Agree and amplify. You must appear to be above the fray. If you get broadsided and lose your cool, smooth it over. Shutting it all down just because you…

I would have been far better off in the military than what I ended up doing in my early 20s. If I could've made it, anyway. After swearing me in and giving me a departure date, the Navy called me back a couple days later and told me I got caught with pot one too many times (even though I had an ASVAB score in the upper 90s), then advised me to try the Marines. I knew I was too scrawny and beta for that shit, so I walked away with my head hung low. I ended up marrying a single mom who of course w…

This seems true, but I'd love to see more evidence of it. They seem to have no difficulty 'organizing' for trivial celebrations or hobbies, so I wonder what exactly would make those kinds of things different for women than unionizing.

"Find that one who would die to make you happy, and is genuinely happy to have you around." ...and never, ever assume that she will stay that way indefinitely. It's too easy to end up on autopilot and lose the thread, or to let the things that attract her to you slip away. Appreciate what you have, but continually picture your life without her. Be at peace with the idea of being alone again in the future. If you don't do this, the odds are astronomically high that it will bite you in the ass.

If I were to split up with the girl I'm currently with and we were married, she would owe me alimony. Can't imagine actually trying to get it, but the point is if we had to split our assets I would come out way ahead. Guys here might scoff or call me a loser for this, but I'm not convinced it's such a bad place to be. I wouldn't mind making more money. However, I got over materialism long ago, don't want to be anyone's bitch and don't want to waste a bunch of time trying to build a business that…

Some guys don't value pretty furniture that doesn't significantly improve quality of life, or lame 'vacations' that are totally on rails and designed to rob tourists, or additional square footage that's only empty space, or... It's his money, up to him how he wants to spend it. If she can't hang, she needs to speak up, and GTFO if she doesn't like his answers. I've known girls who are greater or lesser materialists, but have rarely if ever met a girl who isn't one at all. A lot of guys simply se…

This is why, if done right, it can be a good thing to date women who have more money than you and know it. Probably more true for guys who are younger or haven't decided what to do with their lives. These girls often don't make the best financial decisions, why not funnel some of that wasteful spending toward yourself? Aren't you a more worthwhile expense than an extra pedicure or pair of shoes?

Pretty bold posting that view here. You've got a point, though. I think when we treat each other inhumanely it reduces efficiency, and it's hard to deny that a culture which tends to hide and marginalize actual victims of serious mistreatment could benefit from some reform. The question is how to provide better protection for those who really need it without going too far and opening the door to other kinds of unexpected exploitation. When you create a coddled "protected class", in the long run …

One of the best things I've seen here. When I was younger I got so depressed I wanted to die. Part of my problem was knowing I was an addict for life. At some point I had to accept that being an addict is better than being dead or I wouldn't still be here. All that said, my greatest days are either: when I'm denying myself appreciating indulgence more because I've been denying myself My body has shown me in great detail exactly how right Seneca was all too many times. Overdoing it will hurt you.…

What a great list. If we had meetings, I could see something like this on the wall. Harmful beliefs without evidence are humanity's greatest challenge.

all of them lead down the same path of emotional pain Absolutely, without question. Logic and reason should always rule over emotion with an iron fist. There's nothing wrong with understanding emotion and working with it or around it, using it in your favor in dealings with others and yourself, but it should always be subservient to cold, hard, reliable facts. It's the only way to prevent potentially deadly flights of fancy like this. Our culture encourages people to let their emotions run wildl…

people have been fairly miserable since the beginning of time A ton of great responses in this thread, but to me this is the take home. The average person will all too often put up with a lot of crap once their subconscious recognizes that life is short and being lonely can really suck dirty donkey balls. Instead of improving SMV and social skills by putting themselves out there and being willing to experience some humility, I'd wager a majority will choose to settle. Path of least resistance is…

Or reversed-- a girl trying to snag a top-level man vs. farming a bunch of betas. The metaphor fails a bit at the part where the girl simply does both, but she only has so much time and has to choose how to spend it.

The thing is, she has been pulling this shit for years - like, a lot of them - and has had abundant opportunities, resources, connections and relationships which could have been leveraged to improve her situation. She's also demonstrated a consistent pattern of failing to take responsibility for her messes and trying to implicate everyone around her instead. I've dealt with mental health issues myself and will readily give someone who's struggling the benefit of the doubt. I also used to actuall…

Long ago, I dated an alcoholic woman with 2 kids from 2 different dads (I was a thirsty beta with no social skills due to religion, coupled with a lowered desire to improve due to my own addiction issues). She would talk on and on about what a hard working, sacrificing single mom she was, how her kids were her life, etc.-- problem was, she dealt out verbal abuse daily, took no responsibility for her own bullshit, blamed everyone else for everything she didn't like and could never apologize for a…

If there is any truth to what you're saying, the difference is infinitesimal when you compare us against other species. Musculature is a whole different thing - plenty of animals are stronger than us - but the human mind is an incredibly complex, recently developed wonder of biology unique to our species that both genders benefit from and are sexually attracted to (so intelligence is selected for in both). Women's minds differ from men's, but the prevailing view is that they cluster around the m…

It comes from scientific literature. Things we naturally perceive as opposites are framed in reference to the 'positive' value (consider the ph scale, where acids and bases are antipodal, yet an acid can be a 6 and a base can be an 8). A lot of writers aspiring to appear highbrow use this tactic. I'm quite sure the author intends "state of well being" here to include 'negative' states such as those you mentioned.

If only I had thought like that when I met Miss Single Mom (of two kids from two different fathers). For whatever reasons, some of us have to travel the hard road. Religion will fuck you over bigtime on this one if you decide some afternoon after a little too much acid that you finally found the One True Path or some shit. It was a short step from this to believing my feelings were leading me to Truth, because that's what the Great Spirit does when you pray a lot, right? In short, I got an insid…

Depends on the person, but for most or at least a lot of us, I agree that wanting to escape is the hardest part. After seeing the shittier part of life for long enough, avoiding discomfort and hoping your death isn't too rough seems like a decent deal. Striving for greater things means both discomfort and accepting risks, on several levels. Risk aversion is a tough obstacle to surmount.

Lack of access to a gun during a certain period of several months when I contemplated my demise daily is the only reason I'm still here. This was before internet as we know it, so my halfassed research on the booze & pills combo I tried led to an incomplete result. Yeah, beta. Didn't use the term then, but I knew what I was. It was part of why I was done with all this shit. Having a buddy who was willing to stick with me in a major way until I got back on my feet is the biggest factor that kept …

You say, "Cut first". I'm wondering if you would give the same advice to an older guy. For a generic example, let's say he's 40 years old, at 6'0 and 195 lbs. My thought has been that, for people whose bodies have begun the long down slope, strength training should come first (provided you're not obese). This way, you reinforce the infrastructure that can help prevent injury when doing all the cardio needed to burn off the fat. Does this make sense to you, or am I missing something?

I wasn't entirely surprised to read those things. It actually seemed to fit with the rest of the story in my mind. It's not that we don't care about women, at all, it's that we recognize how maintaining frame and financial security are not matters to be trifled with. Regardless, this is some of the absolutely most delicious schadenfreude I've experienced in a long time.

We should never be dishonest to each other. I agree with that statement. OP could have been a bit more direct, not to mention more concise. Looking it over again, though, I don't see it as trying to bait and switch much. The title itself contains the phrase "managing your bitches", which to me is a humorous indication that this has very little to do with "if you want a successful LTR"-- something the guide in fact recommends against seeking. When I think back on all the ways I've seen younger me…

10th section: After Marty gets back from 1885 I think you meant 1955. Took me a minute to untangle that shit. You should fix it. Otherwise, pretty good post. I've seen these movies a few times and they seem to hold up decently over the years. It's on my short list for when kids or older people are around. edit: format

You've almost got it. The point is abundance mentality. You're not shooting them, just releasing them back into the wild. Which is what happens with an untrainable dog anyway: it becomes more effort to keep them than to let them go. On one hand, you're somewhat right in that for most practical purposes, this post's advice will nearly always keep younger men from getting in LTRs. If they follow it and actually end up with a woman at level 3, they've gotten lucky and/or filtered a huge number of g…

I've known guys who carried their sense of loss over 'the one that got away' well into midlife or further. Gotta purge that shit somehow. For me it was a combo of seeing her as she actually is instead of idealized, forgiving myself for letting the attachment get too strong (while resolving not to be such a dumbass again), and improving my situation enough so I had more options. You could say I'm more jaded now, but when people are genuinely good to me I recognize and appreciate it perhaps more t…

All I'm saying is it doesn't fit with the other examples. I get your point and it's worthy of discussion, but putting a woman who's been through the catastrophic, sudden, gory death of husband and children alongside cheating whores and a lying pregnancy trap cunt seems uncouth.

And women are supposed to have foresight in situations like this? Since when? They follow the feelz. Of course she was overwhelmed by the constant reminders in her old life. And of course her brain couldn't cope with keeping it to herself once she started a new one. Are you really expecting consistency or logic here? It's standard female behavior. I think that, given the extreme situation, it's hard to call this bad behavior. TRP reports on a woman acting the way we expect women to act, news at …

Getting attention and sharing something deeply personal are totally intertwined. You can't really have one the latter without the other former, especially with a woman. A major TRP principle is stoicism. For a man in a similar situation, there might be is a legitimate question of whether to ever share such details. It would only make sense to do so (if at all) in talking with another man about someone he lost, or if one of them thought they were about to die. For a normal woman, there is no ques…
