Yep! All you can do is avoid men (really, avoid anyone) who tells you who they are but can't show you the same through their actions.

I used to constantly engage in conversations like this. Such an incredible waste of time. Hope you've also learned to block and move on. As corny as it sounds, our time is our own greatest currency.

So, essentially, "I want to test your boundaries and use up your free time before getting to know you normally." Nice.

It breaks my heart too because Lemonade was her strongest album IMO. She thrived on claiming her identify through the pain.

I'd go as far as to say this is an example of systemic sexism against women. Women are supposed to build up their own lives and support men more than we are supported by them in return. Then if the relationship falls apart, it's the women's fault. And then there's a negative connotation to a woman staying single to focus on her own well being and career, especially as she gets older. If there is a family with kids involved, then the woman is blamed for the father's behavior, or blamed for leavin…

Thanks for sharing this. Breaks my heart for my younger self to have had to learn this the hard way.

I don't think you need to restart a relationship with someone where you need to vet their text messages on a female empowerment dating forum. You don't feel comfortable following up with him. Why would you feel comfortable again with him going forward? You already started to move on, so why stop now? You didn't move on to prove anything to him. Joining the chorus here - ignore and keep going. What do you have to gain by going back?

Does this mindset not scare other women? Maybe it's me getting older, but anyone who says they knew they wanted to marry you after 1 week seems too intense for me.

I don't doubt that I come across as jaded, however, I feel like this is why we need to stop looking back and keeping in contact with people from failed relationships. There's always going to be this narrative that he was better for the next one. And it's always from his perspective. You don't know what the woman is going through, and guys who brag about changing usually try to control the narrative. You'll never get the full story. Speaking as someone who has fought my own demons, there has neve…

While this may be inspired by his time in a 12 step program (or similar, obvs we don't know), I do want to say this is NOT the kind of apology a well organized 12 step program and supportive sponsor would encourage someone to send. The apology is supposed to not cause more harm to the person receiving it, and isn't supposed to make assumptions about the receiver's state of mind. Either this guy didn't vet his apology with his group, or he's drawn the short straw on programs.

Can we have this post pinned for as long as this sub remains around? I teared up reading this. This is one of the best examples I've seen of encouraging us to take responsibility for their own well-being while practicing empathy towards ourselves.

"other people's struggles are theoretical to me" is the best way I've ever heard that phrased. I've always struggled to explain why it's more painful for those of us living the experience vs those who simply have to picture it.

I know this thread is a bit older but I wanted to thank you for sharing. This is sage advice. I've been in a similar situation, but while in my 30s. It doesn't change.
