How the HELL do you get "smashed in the back" by a pair of slippers? Either your wife is wearing steel-toecapped clogs about that house, or you're so into her frame that you're imbuing this with the effect of what she /wanted/ to do. Sounds as if she got you right in the feelz.
/r/askMRP13/04/17 12:02 PM

You've changed, man.
/r/MarriedRedPill25/03/17 06:24 PM

You're leaving gaps and expecting her to fill them in; and/or assuming she will do so fairly/reasonably/rationally. Can you see where you might be going wrong here?
/r/MarriedRedPill19/03/17 06:08 PM

"You set a boundary" He didn't. Not really. Look again. The references were to "about" or "around" 1030. And that's when recounted to us. She will barely have noticed it.

"Compliance is temporary, attraction is earned. " A timely punch in the knackers to those of us who conflate the two.

If you have to ask, then you aren't ready.

Plus, watch the ’Nice Guy' trait of looking for a mommy and not a lover.

Brings to mind this Seth Godin quote: "There aren't many actual shortcuts. There are merely direct paths... Most people don't take them, because they frighten us--too direct, I guess. ... Things that look like shortcuts are actually detours (disguised as less work)."

Yeah, I clocked that one immediately afterwards. Will save that for later after the gym to give it the focus it deserves.

It's like a switch got flicked when I was reading MMSLP 18 months ago. Started empty barbell on Stronglifts that same day. Now 1/2/3/4 plates and change on my 1RMs. Close to 1000lbs club. Have gained 15lbs, and dropped 11%bf. Trousers that fit my rear and thighs have a waist have a clown-sized waist. Shirts that were tight around midriff are now bursting at the chest. Tore a shirt bending down recently. Shame fuelled the early stages. But it is gone now. Nothing has replaced it. Because this is …

"Question is this: how long, or how many times will I need to hold frame, call her on her shit, and be the oak in her storm before crying, silent treatment, and repeatedly calling me a shovenistic ass doesn't last for 2 days at a time?" For as long as you're with her, you fool. The Promised Land is the process.

Nah, you're not being a dick. You'll have to put a lot more work into getting out of her frame before you'll achieve 'dick' status. And she'll love you for it.

Yeah, that's a danger. But the IPF judges keep me strict on form. Would be interesting to do higher rep ranges one day, but I simply get too much from pure powerlifting to distract myself from it.

At no point does he indicate that the display is for the wife's benefit. It could be to anyone. Even oneself. I accept that this is how the idea turns up in MMSLP, but I'm not holding OP hostage to that.

That's fine for sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (showy bodybuilder shit). Myofibrillar hypertrophy (functional size) is what I'm about. Plus, legwarmers and sweatbands just don't suit me. EDIT: typo

"And then she might say... And then I might say." Yes, this sort of thing is even worse in the subjunctive than it is in the simple past tense. Chill, lad.

Cool. The twerk would arise when the shoulders move up (if at all) at a slower rate than the hips. Then the hips stop and you end up doing a good morning to get upright again, and only in the third phase does everything raise at the same time... Or you just do a good morning to completion (which would create the pivot that locks your knees out too hard). 1) how's your lower back? If that's sore then that points to a twerk. 2) if you have or have had buttwink, check out Omar Isuf on YouTube. He r…

Sounds like you may have a bit too much forward lean, which loads the quads/knees rather than the posterior chain. Is your arse shooting up first, followed by shoulders with a sort of double-pivot twerk? Oh, and are you squatting highbar or lowbar?

There's a great quote by David Allen in Getting Things Done Fast (the audio CD of the book) where he says that the greater the ambiguity a person faces in working life, the more they are drawn to hitting small white balls into holes, or weeding a rosebed. He describes this as being 'starved of wins'. In the face of the greatest ambiguity, starved of wins and full of rage, chasing PBs under a barbell is exactly where everyone has to start. And I am yet to see any need to come back out from under …

Yes, they do. Because ego. Dumbbell presses will give you great range of motion, allow you to engage stabilizers, and stop you living on that machine. Each of which readies you for proper barbell work.

I'd go dumbbells for bench and for press. Not ideal, though. I seem to recall that SL originally had dips as an optional after workout A and chins after B. Loose prescription on sets and reps. What I did was Progress 1x1, 2x2,3x3, 4x4, 5x5, 5x6, 5x7 etc. EDIT: swapped * for x

Planet Fitness? You have my sympathy. Yes, use the Smith for BR, SQ and DL. Maybe swap BR for cable rows. Drop to 25% of the weight when you get to a proper setup. Your stabilizers will thank you. If they let you do dips and pullups there, then do them. The SL paid app will tell you how and when.

Also, I highly doubt you were lifting a stripped barbell, which further suggests YNDTP. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes. Kill the ego and lift tomorrow. Kill the spine and you might not lift again.

If you did a training session in which you did a separate leg workout AND an SL5x5 session, then you didn't 'do' SL5x5. You fucked around with some weights. Just prehab, rehab, deal with the DOMs and keep going with pure SL5x5. You will be fine, and you will build a great base. When you are stronger, (1 plate press, 2 plate bench, 3 plate squat, 4 plate DL) switch to something like Wendler 5/3/1. But not until then. Build the base. And all the other things I mentioned to OP.

Sounds like it's working (and your three day split probably wasn't) so why quit? Do the Limber 11 before lifting, foam roll after, and see how you go. Let's forget about this silly physique nonsense. You can inject and curl, or deadlift and make your own testosterone.

+1 for FitNotes. Brilliant app. Powerful and flexible. Love the way it projects rep maxes on different exercises, so you can mix things up.

First of all: well done. On two levels. First, you got into the gym. Second, you stuck to the program. Right now you're conditioning three ways: you're subjugating your ego (it takes more courage to lift a stripped barbell in a squat cage than a bending barbell); you're training your grit (by sticking to a program; and - at this stage least important of all - you're readying your soft tissue for an amazing journey. Selflessness, grit and sound soft tissue are essential to this. When you're deadl…

Given the importance of lifting, I don't know why SS isn't Book IV of the core reading. My concern is that otherwise men will read 'lift' and think 'curl'. Literally a big-ass difference.

Another 40something here. 1) Foam roll. I don't know why, but it really helps with mobility and with avoiding DOMs. 2) Do the limber 11 https://m.reddit.com/r/Fitness/comments/2qmkye/joe_defrancos_limber_11_in_11_simple_gifs/ You may well be covering those bases with all those animal names, but in case you're missing anything/over egging it, this will keep you lifting.

Going back upstream on the thread, I read Bogey as saying 'OP's reticence/doubt during the act will have turned her off'. Big leap to equate that with rape. <<sips paint>> But that's none of my business.

Actus is the singular (act/action), acta is the plural (acts/actions). So depending upon your standpoint the difference is: a) a number not less than one; b) pedantry; or c) the benefit of a classical education, dear boy.
