I'd say as a general rule just avoid 10s and maybe even 9s because they're not worth it. If you have some serious alpha game or money, and you feel confident, go for it - but a true 10 is usually lured into modeling or entertainment and it's not easy to prevent the hypergamy there. That's a little extreme - ie. I didn't learn what a 'closure' is in CS and I'd have to google it. I run a software team with 4 direct reports and some externals that report to me specifically on this project. But the crux is correct - most software companies are looking for BS in CS at a minimum. You can get around this if you're a genius but it will be tough to get your foot in the door.
