Two things: One of the things I like about watching Girls is how the characters sometimes openly state RP wisdom as fact. In the first season, Marnie hates her boyfriend because he's too nice, and openly says so. Interesting to see young girls say these things. I think Dunham doesn't expect you to be behind the characters 100%. They do some terrible things that the show acknowledges. She views her characters in a gray area. This is a great way to start talking about music for a bit. Everybody likes music. "What do you like to do for fun" is cliche but still good. It's good because it's light and trivial, while also actually giving you insight into the other person. I'll say I like to play basketball and cook (which is true).
