Honestly, you can really effectively focus on 2 areas of your life at once. Considering that, you may want to put pick up on the backburner for a few months. Make your other focus something that will help you in school (i.e. exercise or building up a social network). When you have at least a month where school isn't a focus, do game. Going out once a week won't be a total waste of time. But your progress and improvement will be very slow.
