Do you plan on having kids? If your husband is this ridiculous about body hair, I honestly couldn't imagine him handling your pregnant or postpartum body well. I would take this is an early red flag that this isn't a man you want to stay married to. I can very easily see the marriage breaking down because he thinks "your c section scar" or "your sagging breasts" are unattractive.

Just wanted to add as part of "almost all birth control", the copper IUD has no hormones at all and is 99.9% effective and requires no maintenance for 10 years.

Also Try touching him more often randomly and doing the same things he does, it'll help you feel more in control about this, and he may relax with the habit because he's getting what he needs. I was going to recommend this last point! I had the exact same problem as /u/JaneStuartMill. Sometimes my husband would tackle me and mess up my hair or outfit! Pissed me off to no end. Or I'd be in the middle of cooking and he'd literally block my way as he holds me in a super annoying hug. Completely mes…

No one is saying they don't like their kids. Men are just really comfortable with "giving up" on trying to see their kids. Or think it's okay to only see their kids one a year. This isn't news, but men are generally bad at maintaining relationships.

I've actually never read a study that said American/UK married women are happier than married men or single women. Even when I do a biased Google query for "are married women more happy than single", nearly every link on the first page (besides someone's personal blog -- Evan Marc Katz) mentions that married women are less happy than married men and less happy than single women. I also checked out the study mentioned in Evan Marc Katz's blog (done by the University of Virginia). No where in it d…

You forget how many men had to die to make room (Google says over 17 million in WW1 alone, nevermind the wounded -- America's pop was ~100m at the time). No, I didn't forget. New people were becoming 18 every year (men and women). If women in the workforce were causing wages to drop, the effects would have become increasingly worse instead of randomly dropping in the 1970s. In fact, since populations tend to have a pyramid effect and people usually have 2 children (though baby boomers had an ave…

When women entered the labor market they effectively increased the supply substantially, thereby driving down the cost of labor. What are your sources for this? Countless studies say that wages have decreased because of automation, outsourcing to foreign countries, an achievement gap, and fiscal policy. Wages jumped up after WWII and continued to rise steadily until the 1970s. If women entering the workforce caused the price of labor to drop, it would have had a noticeable effect within 20 years…

I have a mentor that I met 8 years ago (she was 28). She's 36 and unmarried and has no kids. I remember her saying back when I first met her that she didn't want kids. She was a finance slave on wall street until she was 31, then she spent a couple of years studying culinary arts in France. She met someone in France and they were engaged, but broke up because he wanted kids and she didn't. After she broke off her engagement, she wrote a long Facebook status in which she basically said she wasn't…

My SO is really into traditions. So, we've been going to the same restaurant every year for five years for Valentine's Day and we spend the entire time reminiscing on our previous Valentine's Days. For every major holiday/event (Valentine's Day included), I also buy a dozen flowers then press one of those flowers in a book. Then I write a short description of what the day was like and a small reflection on our relationship. My SO isn't so good with remembering things so he really appreciates stu…

She will be able to get into a top college and marry a top quality guy, rather than waste her time l caring for siblings and watch them accomplish what she was not allowed.... I watched my siblings (3 younger sisters) all the time as a teenager/child. I went to an ivy league school, am engaged, and make six figures at the age of 23. You can blame being forced to watch your siblings all you want, but it really depends on the person and situation.

She is also not an anomaly. It depends on your definition of an anomaly, but I would say that she is. 90.8% of women date men within 0-9 years of their age... And 1% of women would actually date some crusty 40-year-old dude when they're 20 (tbh, it's probably less than that. The majority of people okay with a 20 year gap are probably age 40+ themselves). Similarly, why would a woman date some 40 year old with a kid when she could start fresh with a 30-year-old with no kids that will invest fully…

I like how my SO and I did it. We moved in together once we got engaged. I was against "living like married people without being married", but it didn't seem necessary to wait for actual marriage. Being engaged is enough commitment.

then there should be very few times where you actually don't want to have sex What do you mean by don't want to have sex? My SO gets pissed when I don't orgasm. So I never have a problem with having sex, but often I don't feel like orgasming and I don't want to deal with him insisting on poking and licking me until I orgasm. It also sucks because he usually refuses to finish unless I finish first. Just thinking about the whole ordeal annoys me. Plus, sometimes orgasming is really uncomfortable f…

I've always equated "I don't want to get married" with "I want to keep my options open". I am of the feeling if I am giving up my youth, in exchange I need a strong notion of commitment. Ceremonies are different. I think weddings are somewhat pointless. Your SO's reasons are good for why he doesn't want to have an expensive wedding, but don't really apply for getting a marriage license.

It was a survey conducted through the mail and telephone, it had a small sample size that was probably local or regional at best. It's... just bad. Bad. Most surveys that are considered reliable are conducted via mail and telephone (this one also used the Internet). It's considered more random because surveying people out in the real world is always biased (i.e. you'll skew your economic demographic if you survey people at Wal-mart). Statistical confidence intervals also consider 1,000 people a …

If OP is in a western European country, the quote could be very plausible. Since the article isn't in English, it definitely isn't a study of American culture.

Nothing is more attractive than a guy who's SMV is so high to the point that he can be picky. It makes you feel that much more special to date a guy that has such discerning standards and taste. Plus, self-control is hot.

I went to an ivy league school and all of the men I graduated with absolutely shit on women who didn't graduate college. They'll always talk about how they're having sex with some girl, but won't make her a girlfriend because she "works at Starbucks" or whatever. Similarly, they often talk about how empty and irritating it is talking to "stupid girls". But, then again, I wouldn't say I went to school with everyday people; they're definitely the exception. My SO used to date a girl less intellect…

She has reason to be jealous. The two of you have bad boundaries for a platonic relationship. He's obviously attracted to you. The relationship is lost, unless he breaks up with his GF (which is possible, since they do not seem to be doing too well if he's already sneaking out). You should be okay with it being lost. If he doesn't value maintaining your friendship, it's probably not worth it.

Yes, just like RPW is a safe place for anti-feminists.

So a lot of this is just hypergamy. Or it could just be women trying to marry their equals, it doesn't necessarily have to be them trying to marry "up". Considering that women are graduating college at a higher rate than men in most developed countries, it isn't surprising that it's difficult for them to find their "equals". And it also isn't surprising that a lot of the ones that are equals don't want to get married.

Ahhh. That makes sense for why women don't have children. And I imagine the expectation to have children is strong once you get married, so maybe that's why they're deferring marriage also. It makes me think that the real destruction of traditional values, marriages, and households is a result of economic policies that force both parents to work.

I also really admire Japanese culture, seems very RPW. Makes me wonder why marriage and child birth rates are declining, despite the government actively trying to encourage marriage and children.

If you tell him from the start, he's going to treat you poorly or just drop you. If you tell him too far down the line, it will piss him off. I'd tell him late on the second or third date (actual date; not those silly "netflix and chill" dates). By this time, he should have a sense of you and should be able to measure whether or not your past outweighs the person he's gotten to know. You should do it before the two of you get physically intimate.

She should also be required to always have the house up to standard while never expecting her husband to help out. Almost. I'd more so measure it in time. 40-60 hours worth of housework. It can vary by household, but if housework takes more than 60 hours, it seems reasonable to say the SAHM has done what is solely her job. Splitting debt generally also makes sense.

This sounds like a reasonable prenuptial and I really wonder what women balk at when they say they're against prenuptials. Another poster mentioned it seemed like distrust, but I think you can still have reasonable faith in your relationship but acknowledge extremes can happen. You can't predict mental illness, the effects of the death of a child, or addiction, and even the best intentions sometimes can't overcome these things. It's not even about love or communication in those situations.
