Sorry, but I've lived in NYC my whole life and have had thousands of conversations with strangers, namely waiting for buses or trains. There are certain parts where people are heads down and have a place to be, so it's best not to kick up some conversation with them, sure. However, outside of those patches I've had conversations about all kinds of stuff with all kinds of people across the city.
