it depends. When my grandad was my age basically all men worked in the coal mines (litterally, my town used to be a mine town) or the rubber plant. This was before the obesity crisis so women were at worst frumpy. So you had men who did manual labor and women who never needed to lift anything bigger than a child. Now it's much more varried and plenty of women work at the rubber plant, so maybe that's a factor in reportings?
