I wasn't trying to make it a big deal when I said it was cissexist, as I like the overall message, but the message would not work if it didn't rely on the argument that men are men because they have penises and women are women because of their vaginas. The whole joke wouldn't make sense without that implicit argument, therefore it is cissexist.

I agree, sometimes you've just got to say fuck it and acknowledge the shortcomings in what you're trying to say so that you can say it at all. But that it is so often trans-related things that get sacrificed is indicative that people aren't even trying/aren't aware to even try. Trans people have historically been thrown under the bus so that other groups (gays, women) can win their rights.

As a formerly white, straight and male person (well, I'm still white), I get that. It's complicated. I literally just said that this post was awesome, minus the one issue that gender is not linked to genitals (see my reply to Vahnya). I just think the important goal that is the destruction of gender roles should not depend on enforcing gender as synonymous to sex. I wouldn't be here if I didn't want to challenge and be challenged.

Basically, it implies that maleness can be reduced to penises and femaleness can be reduced to vaginas. According to its logic, a toy is only non-gendered if it isn't used on one's genitals. But to say that is to say that gender is decided by one's genitals, which is cissexist. Technically though, it's cissexist, not transphobic, but those are closely related terms.

I really wanted to have some hope that this movement might achieve something positive for men without trying to undermine women. There are false stats everywhere. Feminists are against false rape accusations (as they aren't fair to men and they discredit real rape victims). maybe they're resting on their laurels, but they've still challenged gender roles far more than men have and have corrected many wrongs experienced by women.

I think for sure that men and boys' struggles are less focused on than women's and girls', and there is a sting, I've felt it, but that's an emotional response, not based on stats. Everyone gets a shitty hand, but since women and girls' have their issues talked about (due to established feminist movement and it being okay to talk about their feelings), men feel more alienated. but of course, motivations to join the MRM is more complicated than that.

The sidebar doesn't represent most of what I have seen, hence my asking about this. I'm not at the start of a journey though; I've experienced malehood and femalehood and in my opinion, MRAs are overplaying their hand. Men have it shitty too, but it's not what MRAs say it is. The real world is complicated. Even same field wage gap analysis, which is overall better than a more general analysis, leaves out the fact that women rarely (though increasingly) make it past the glass ceiling, which contributes to a wage gap on a more general level. That politicians statement is misleading, but more so because of how he framed it. Having lived in the Western world as a man and a woman, I can tell you that neither is easy, but women have it much harder. Every body gets a shitty hand, but men's issues seem (to me) as easier to resolve, but it's going to take cooperation from men to stop policing themselves about their gender roles and being dishonest about what feminism really is. But that's ignoring the intersections of race (I'm white), economic privilege, etc...

I am sure what was counted as cosmetic would exclude procedures that are medically necessary (such as repairing burnt tissues or laser eye surgery). In my experience, it's mostly old men who perpetuate the idea that men are uncultured. They pressure the younger ones into feeling like they need to do physical labourb(including sports) rather than cultured things like art and poetry, because they aren't comfortable with their masculinity.

The point of the cosmetic surgery statistic is about surgeries people think they need due to societal pressure and that are pursued consensually. Most circumcision are non-consensual and not due to societal pressure experienced by boys, so you can't include that in the statistics.
