That's somewhat reassuring! Thanks. :-)

For someone with significantly more sexual and romantic experience, wouldn't my complete lack of experience be a negative? Going out and having meaningless sex for the sake of accumulating experience is antithetical to everything I believe in, but I cannot help but think it would be an unpleasant surprise to find out that your girl generally doesn't know how exactly to do the most basic things, so much so that you'd have to teach her nearly everything from scratch. I imagine it'd be even more of…

I don't consciously do this but I think it happens, yes. Thanks for bringing it up.

My takeaway from this thread is that I should be dating older men since the qualities I am looking for are more likely to be present in them, and what I have to offer would be more appealing to someone older than someone my age.

There is some truth in that, but it isn't the main concern for the time being. Attraction isn't the crux of the issue either. I'm not disqualifying anyone based on age alone. It's a matter of difference in life experience (~20 vs late 30s to 40+) and my uncertainty of how that plays out in a relationship.

Genuine question: is there any way to learn to filter besides through experience? I don't want to make too many mistakes I will regret down the line, as I've made enough.

I apologize for not having gone into greater detail in the OP - these older men are consistently 15 to 25 years older than I am. I don't mind dating guys 10 years older than me - that's ideal, but I am barely 20 and am repeatedly getting attention from men in their 40s. Some of it is welcome and some of it isn't, and I am still learning how to filter what is appropriate and what isn't. I was raised in a very traditional household so what I look out for in a potential partner is very different fr…

Is the difference in life experience between a man in his 30s to 40s and a girl my age a barrier in an RP relationship? I don't know what I have to offer someone of that age besides my youth, pleasantness and loyalty. I am not especially pretty - but I am working on maximizing what I do have - so I can't be his PYT or hot young girlfriend or anything like that.

Could you please elaborate a little on what you mean by my not caring that they are bashful showing? I'm not sure I understand.

I'm still a student, but I am working right now. A lot are cold approaches or people I see everyday but don't necessarily know. I don't notice any particular SMV of men who are doing the approaching - the lowest has been a cab driver who cold approached me on the way back from work, and the highest is a postdoc I work with who has been nothing but a gentleman - I genuinely like him but he is at least a good 20 years older. I am surrounded by a lot more young men than I am older men but receive v…

I'll keep on keeping on in terms of self improvement and becoming the best woman I can be then. Thank you wingnut.

It's a double-edged sword, because on one hand, these guys are theoretically good for an LTR, but on the other hand, the bashfulness on its own is a complete turn-off.

First of all, to quote Louie, "the only time you should look in your neighbor's bowl is to make sure they have enough". Don't get caught up in what other girls have or you'll just drive yourself crazy. You're right. Thank you, I do need that reminder sometimes. :-) On the other hand, you could always change the signals your sending and try presenting yourself in a more sexy way. But then you be getting attention from guys who may want to only plate you. It's a risky move but it may be one you co…

Because I don't think it's appropriate for me to be dating someone only slightly younger than my own father. I genuinely am attracted to older mature masculine men, yes, but perhaps I will wait a few more years if there's no one suitable for me right now.

Thanks for your perspective. I am curious as to what guys around my age and slightly older are looking for though. I see girls all around me in relationships with guys my age and can't really pinpoint what it is about them that they have that attracts guys my age, when I don't.

I work out for my physical, and more importantly, my psychological health. I don't really have any fixed goals for this - I intend to keep working out on a regular basis till the day I die. I'm still a work-in-progress when it comes to my domestic skills. I can cook, but it's not great. I can bake, but it's nothing special either. I'm familiar with basic housework but there's still plenty of room for improvement. I'm slowly teaching myself about basic skincare and makeup. This is a really fun on…
