Can’t say that anymore tho. It’s a pejorative.

Nah, that’s still toxic. Were using an example of a man who self sacrifices for a woman by wielding violence because a secret has to be kept due to Stockholm syndrome or whatever and saying that’s a positive role model? Nonsense. Thats some white knighting bs and taken out of sitcom land it reinforces the same stereotypes that got us into this mess. How about a real life role model that doesn’t need any of that? I’ll start: Fred Rogers

Thanks for addressing this. Our communities and places to just exist are falling apart around us as society turns insular with social media increasingly dominating the landscape. This is horrible for loneliness. Men are more socially constrained so we feel that loneliness sooner, but it’s increasing for women too. The economic aspect is very real too, and that’s an even harder issue to solve than boosting community involvement. It’s gonna have to become a change in what the typical date looks li…

Good luck on finding a therapist that’s open to these concepts though.

It’s the dog that actually caught the car. Suffrage? Got it. Civil rights? You bet. Affirmative action, gender based scholarships, etc. have all made it so that females are no longer the second class citizens they once were. Buuuut, that would mean that most if not all goals of feminism were accomplished and it doesn’t really need to exist anymore as it did. THAT doesn’t sit well with existing feminists however, so much like christians in America their identity needs to be that of a perpetually …

I once heard it said: “Women talk face to face, men talk side by side” This is to say that men generally would feel more comfortable forming relationships with other men over an activity of some sort. This used to be easily done at the bar or at the office, but changes in the employment landscape, rising costs of social activities, and the general atmosphere of inadequacy men feel from fake curated social media representations have done a horrible disservice to our ability to interact in meaning…

Ironically “being a prick” is another sex based insult. The very thing that we’re supposedly deconstructing and analyzing here. Guess we’re not as ready to give them up as we thought.

Sure, that’s why the left pushed for the TPP free trade agreement that the right obstructed and mothballed. I’m sure had it passed, the naysayers would have loved to take credit for it too. Must be fun on the right with all your “alternative” facts.

So you’re claiming Trump is left wing? Or that he’s working class? Neither of which are true at all. Not like truth is something trumpets are concerned about to any significant degree.

I think it’s more like conservative ideology promotes a narrow style of idealized machismo, rather than gay masculinity for example. Some aspects of masculinity are prioritized when they hurt men as a whole. Problem is in this regards, most of the left wing isn’t much better.

How old is this thing? The most recent citation is over 30 years old. Hell there’s a fax number on the bottom to contact the group that made it. No wonder no one can find these sources. Even if they haven’t been de-bunked or mis-used, their sheer age makes any half-assed inferred claim in this infographic irrelevant by default.

This isn’t necessarily the best example. Women have outnumbered men in universities across the country for nearly two decades now.

The key point is in the E in TERF. They’re exclusionary. Left wing MRA isn’t necessarily, but right wing MRA certainly is. That’s why I made that comparison. For any ideology, if it’s exclusionary it is inevitable to become reductionist by nature. All kinds of slippery slope scenarios become possible after that m, and none of it is good for any movement.

I could see this if it was a redpill type MRA compared w/ TERFs, but a leftist MRA is by definition an explicit attempt to not get lumped into regressive gender politics. Not to say that this matters to those who would knee-jerk and write us off, but that sort wasn’t likely to be convinced either way even if they weren’t misandrists.

So let’s stop referring to that as “the patriarchy” and perhaps something like “the modern western society” or “the zeitgeist”. The concept of a patriarchy is one that feminists use to describe a male centered society made by and for men, as if men actually have sole agency in this. Unless you live in a true patriarchy under a fundamentalist or dictatorial government that phrase is just shorthand for “let’s blame all of society’s ills on men”

Not necessarily ‘sad’ that he won’t know that fear, (none of us here would wish that dread on anyone) but rather it underlines how his experiences as a man are… well… not the same. OP, you’re a man as any other here, but consider hanging around r/menslib if you feel like defending feminism.

Funnily enough I lived in Japan for a couple years myself. I think it is similar in other countries, but in Japan it really is exacerbated by the collapsing demographics. I lost track of the number of ghost towns I’d encounter in the countryside where the only souls to be found were a few old men and women only a few years short of the grave. The culture is judgy enough that people are pushed to become reclusive despite themselves to boot. It’s a messy combo that really helps no one. What’s wors…

Because loneliness sucks hard. It only gets worse as you get older and friends/ family move away or die. Men are far more lonely than women on average too.

Or rather it ironically posits modern radical feminism as having a conservative bent, even if it disagrees with the political right wing in practice. It turns out the trite “Feminazi” wasn’t just a flippant dismissive I guess.

It dances around an uncomfortable fact about social capital regarding men and women. Women are valued for who they are, while men are valued for what they do. As long as a woman is attractive and doesn’t have an obnoxious personality she is looked upon favorably. A man on the other hand is more valued for his skills or occupation, or more importantly in modern times his ability to interact and network socially. Thus being socially awkward is a much greater hindrance to men. At least when it come…

Bravo, good sir. That was a refreshingly well rounded intro, if not a touch verbose. So while tricky to digest at times the basic themes are convincing and clear. I offer my contributions to your points: These are generally good characteristics that accurately provide the reader with a broader image of what masculinity MAY look like. I would personally emphasize that real world displays or embodiments of masculinity will have more of some and less of others if not some omitted entirely, while st…

Absolutely do I think it would eventually be eroded as it simply becomes a part of reproductive rights. Honestly though, I don’t think it matters too much. Maybe you’re used to more socially cohesive communities, but this kind of thing isn’t gonna be on a job or apartment application. Maybe rumors might abound amongst friends that aren’t really your friends at all (cuz they talking behind your back), but shitty people always love to be judgy about other peoples lives. If it wasn’t this it would …

So in your opinion a woman who wants a baby and gets it solo from a sperm bank is being irresponsible and the baby isn’t getting what it’s owed? It’s kind of an irrelevant argument when this equivalent is considered. Most in the comments here seem to agree that both situations would be alleviated by enhanced state-level support. Murkier still if you consider the tons of dysfunctional families out there that get “support” from both parents, but still the kid ends up in social services with a laun…

If a man is in the position where he wants a paper abortion, the current alternative isn’t joint raising a child as a family. It’s single motherhood with child support and visitation rights. Ergo, this won’t increase single motherhood at all. Especially if the likely increase in actual abortions following paper abortions is considered. Social stigma will always be there. It took decades to begin to erode the stigma around single mothers. The same would be true here, but I would gladly trade some…
