I hear you; that’s why my very first sentence was relating to how this social problem is affecting him; not if it was real. The fact of the matter is that a high school freshman need not bear this burden quite yet. If we can encourage him to grow in to a self-assured well-rounded man then he will be in a much better position personally and practically to take on this charge.

Within his question I recognized a need.

My guy, if the rhetoric is affecting you this deeply you need to do a little self-assessment. (EDIT: I missed your note at the end and I’ve clearly written this advice to a young man in the United States. So my specific examples may not be relevant but I think the overall advice still holds value.) (1) Media diet - where are you getting information about the world? Delete you social apps except for ones you use to message your boys. Delete all your follows and feeds. Limit yourself to 30-60 minu…

I don’t understand where this line of questioning is headed. I’ll say that (1) a shortage of doctors exists in the United States as a result of a concerted effort on the part of the AMA to limit the number of seats available for new medical students nationally. They have openly stated this is a goal and have been transparent about why. They want to protect physician income to make the protracted education and training worthwhile economically. And follows (2) that the shortage of physicians in th…

in Canada where I live it’s pretty good Canada is in North America. Yes and amazingly both of those statements jive with my assertion that nurses are doing well in North America.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/04/23 06:38 PM

Yes, I’ll cede that my perspective is largely North American focused. Here Covid had created a situation where the need for licensed nurses is so greatly outstripping supply combined with truly horrific conditions; that nurses, particularly those willing to travel, are able to earn several hundred thousand dollars a year. And will likely be able to hold that income trajectory for 3-5 more years before their incomes renormalize. However, with their push to broaden their scope of practice and with…

Shortage (generalized) =/= shortage of male participants
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/04/23 12:36 AM
1

Physician shortages are artificial and created by the AMA to protect physician’s incomes. Even a concerted focus on growing collegiate participation would not move this number. And largely, it isn’t lawyers and engineers that have spurred the growth of college students over the last 50 years; male or female. Those are relatively highly rewarded or elite or challenging career options that are not going to face any shortage of applicants, nor are they particularly prone to diluting male applicants…

This is a huge problem on the left generally. No “big tent” mentality. You have to subscribe to the exact version of left politics as the super-players or you are trash. Even down to what you are allowed to find funny and what media you may consume. And demanding academic or epistemological integrity will run you afoul of the crowd. Mostly, left bots are just as zealous and just as lemming-minded as the right. It’s very frustrating. I think we could make real and good progress on many left ideas…

A bachelor’s degree [generic] may account for that difference, however in the real world bachelor’s degree don’t come in a [generic] variety. You have to major in something. And as I said in my post that is where you find many programs economically lacking. Additionally, a large number of students will not complete a degree and those students are largely not considered in data like what you have presented. If you look at any amount of undergraduate education, versus only degree attainment then t…

FWIW, higher education isn’t exactly the economic escalator it used to be. Not only are many degrees not economically relevant, trade work wages have kept up with inflation better than most white collar wages in the last 20 years.

I've also seen feminists say men die more because they use more violent methods This doesn’t hold water though, because suicide rate for men is higher with every tracked methodology. Ie, men poison themselves with pills more than women, and they shoot themselves more than women.

I don’t need to. I’m perfectly willing to take you at your word that it says exactly what you said it does. I fully believe that there is a higher conviction rate for trans-folk. Reading the paper will not likely alter my perspective on that, as I appear to agree with your assessment of what it states. 100% of my disagreement is with your extrapolation from that to say higher convictions = higher incidence of crime. That conclusion I reject wholeheartedly.

Interestingly, I find professional male basketball extremely dull. It has become dominated by setting up the dunk. The strategy, teamwork, basic skills, and game depth are all washed out by dominating players and the dunk. Male college basketball and female professional basketball are both far more entertaining for me to watch. You get to see the play strategy. You get to see where excellent fundamentals make a true difference, and you can see where a situational awareness from the players leads…

I could be way overstepping here; but I’ve always been under the impression that the T in TERF was referencing Trans-women because in the eyes of TERFs they are “really just men.” Is there some history around TERFs being anti trans-men that is unique to being trans (ie, it’s not just because they hate all men, but they specifically also hate trans-men for this unique reason? I think you are suggesting scorned love opportunities?)

I understood the comparison, but I don’t see how a perception of pragmatism would lead to longer sentences? I understand the connection between empathy and a shorter sentence under the assumption of rehabilitation. But I don’t follow how bring pragmatic should/would/could indicate a longer sentence is appropriate. What was your thought process for that?
/r/MensRights01/09/22 10:59 PM

(1) I don’t have an opinion on it; (2) I don’t think it materially contributed to the conclusion you drew about why women may have shorter sentences.

Assumed multiple facts not in evidence. (1) women are more empathetic. There is literally a post on this page earlier today about an article discussing this likely being untrue. (2) that the criminal Justice system is in anyway interested in rehabilitation rather than revenge/punishment. It’s not. Full stop.

Actually, government spending literally comes out of no where. That’s how monetary policy works. The government spends all money into existence. The government destroys some money via taxation to keep inflation in check. There is no reason those numbers need to be equal.

The paradox is also BS because men kill themselves at a higher rate with ANY GIVEN METHOD. People will say dumb shit like men are more successful because they use guns to commit suicide and women take pills. And that sounds good on the surface until you see that men kill themselves more frequently with pills than women do. It is the same for every method. The harsh truth is men are more likely to seriously try to end their own life, and women are more likely to use a suicide as a call for help.

I agree with everything you’ve said here except that he is talking about a legal right and not a right to participate in the decision. Being told that another baby is on the way is definitely a relationship milestone. There is a real anticipation, you immediately feel love for that future child in your heart. To you that child is a true and realized thing, it’s not a theoretical future object. If some 3rd party killed his wife he would be 100% justified to say that the person murdered his wife a…

I’m not getting that from OP. He says “how dare her to decide I don’t have any rights or say in the matter [paraphrase],” he isn’t saying that he thought he deserved or had a legal right to stop her. He is talking about the decision in the relationship. That is a choice that healthy couples and committed partners will make as an family. I think the biggest difference WRT pay vs sets is the television ad revenue generated by a 5 set match vs a 3 set match. Presumably you would get ~60%+ more ad revenue from 5 sets than 3. And that is if viewership is also equal between men’s and women’s matches. (Which, I believe, for tennis they are roughly the same. Though very few other sports are that way.)

I don’t understand this; or maybe it just doesn’t follow? But to me the complaint she has sounds a lot more like, “I’m upset my day only has 24 hours in it. I could really get more out of life if I could have 40 hours in every day.” The issue she describes isn’t about money. She is saying that she needs to focus on childcare instead of having a job. Acknowledging her right to bodily autonomy is correct; however, it does not automatically follow that her partner must be happy or supportive of that choice. I somewhat disagree in a nuanced way. I 100% agree from a legal stand point that the mother should have the ultimate, final, and sole authority over their body to make whatever decisions she feels are best. If she chooses abortion, then abortion should happen. No physical or legal barrier should stop her from going forward. But, that doesn’t mean her partner or her family or her friends have to be happy about it. The father is also entitled to autonomy of feelings and if he wants the baby he has…

It’s a trade off in many cases more so than an absolute detriment. As you said you can absolutely excel in one place while failing in another. Hyper focusing for example is something that neurotypical people cannot do, but people with ADHD and autism often can. That doesn’t make neurotypical people “lower functioning.” Also, frequently neurotypical people cannot read the social queues of neurodivergent folk, but people with autism read each other very well. (1) The behavior you have described isn’t gendered and there is no real evidence to suggest specific gender roles or dynamics influence the frequency of the behavior you have described. (2) The behavior you have described is not the limit to what gets rolled into “mansplaining.” The term is so pervasive and dilute, that you see actual experts (ie, college professors, etc) get accused of mansplaining to actual lay people (ie, students in their class.) The term is folly, gender-bait, garbage.

I agree that no patient should be refused a tubal just because they have no children. I’m personally on the fence about providers who want to do an extra mental health wellness assessment for patients requesting tubals or vasectomies that are both childless and younger than 30. I think a lot comes down to clinical judgement of the individual patient case. Some people think they are reversible procedures. While there is an extremely limited reversal timeframe for vasectomy, which is still only 75…

Are you in the US? Nexplanon and most IUDs are covered by all insurance plans with no copay (by law, Affordable Care Act.) There are going to be some questions because these are prescription devices. Appropriateness of therapy has to be confirmed. IE, if someone wants temporary birth control for 3-5 months then Nexplanon and IUDs probably aren’t a good choice. The patient needs to be educated about that to make a proper decision, and in order to determine what education is needed the provider ne…

Yeah, I’m not saying a woman shouldn’t get an IUD or Nexplanon if they want it. They absolutely should. I’m saying I understand why they may not want it; and I am affirming that is a rational choice if they make it. Efficacy concerns are smoke and mirrors. The only real choice is convenience vs risk of adverse event. For dudes the choice is much more clear. If you don’t want a kid, you should wrap it up. Birth control should always be seen 100% as a personal responsibility first and foremost.

Condoms only break frequently if used incorrectly. Wrong size or double bagging are the most common reasons for breakage. Both Nexplanon and IUDs have 99% success rates; however both also carry much higher risks of complications for women who use them. And the efficacy is virtually identical to using a combination of barrier methods and oral contraceptives together.
/r/MensRights24/07/22 02:46 AM

Oral contraceptives have a 99% success rate when used as directed, and about a 95% effective rate in the real world. Condoms have a 97% success rate when used correctly, which winds up being about a 94% effective rate in the real world. Ie, in real-world efficacy, condoms and oral contraceptives as virtually identical.

I think that categorizing those posts as “being happy about the abortion ban,” is disingenuous then. One thing to keep in mind is that (while not a safe space for men) this is a place built for men to discuss men’s issues. Outsiders like yourself are welcome to comment and observe, but the dialog won’t be catered to your sensitivities like other (most) places on Reddit. I say that to give a little perspective. I haven’t seen these “positive” posts. I’ve seen people react with incredulity that this is being blamed on MRAs. And I’ve seen a fair bit of “now they can appreciate how we felt all along.” But that is NOT being happy about abortion bans. I will admit that I have seen a few posts that were happy about the possibility of using this occasion to gain better reproductive rights for everyone. There is a group of people who for sure see overturning Roe as an opportunity to get better rights for every…

I don’t think it is at all fair to claim MRAs were happy about abortion bans. I’ve seen a mostly 50/50 split between ambivalence and outrage. Happy has been far and few between. About the most I could give you there is schadenfreude, because a fair number of men think that banning abortions puts women and men in closer parity with reproductive rights. Have there been some? Sure. Lots of women have been happy about abortion bans too. But I don’t think that opinion is pervasive or representative e…

It’s also frustrating because representing this as a men vs women’s rights issue is not reflective of the truth of the matter. The majority of Americans are in favor of abortion options. This includes the majority of men. Women make up 53% of the US electorate. White women are the largest voting block demographic in the US. They largely broke for Trump in 2016. Trump ran on this agenda. WOMEN VOTED FOR THIS. Yeah, it sucks, but it is much more of an evangelical Christian vs women’s rights issue …

Whether the man who was in the obvious correct headspace was the biodad or not is irrelevant. The relevant bit was the custodial parent was the mom who thought using her kid as the scaffold for a lice colony was a good plan. While only a single data point, it is a data point that conforms with a trend being watched by men’s rights activists. Woefully inadequate woefully insufficient female parents being given custodial guardianship of children.
/r/MensRights12/06/22 03:36 AM

It’s related to family court inequality. One of the chief concerns for mens rights is custodial guardianship is frequently denied to male parents even in situations where the female parent has demonstrable, measurable failings like criminal records, drug use history, and domestic violence. This is a story where a male patent was advocating the obvious best course of action but his lack of custodial guardianship cost the child their life.

This. In my experience people who are doctors don’t call each other doctor. The only exceptions tend to be when addressing someone in front of a group or referring to someone who isn’t present for the conversation. People who are doctors generally call each other by their first names, or “hey you.”

Yes, I’ve often noticed that super-woke evangelical white knights are ableist as fuck. Particularly ableist against folks who are neurodivergent.

It’s great that you and your family have been able to find effective medications or therapies to manage your mental health problems. You are in the very lucky minority. Long-term, “curative,” or even effective treatments for depression, BPD, or GAD are extremely elusive. Most people are able to find medications that take them from coco puffs to perpetually sad, perpetually agitated, or perpetually keyed up. Many conditions also increase sensitivity to real and perceived stress. Which isn’t typic…

The doors thing to me is hilarious. “No, I didn’t open the door for you because you are a woman, I opened the door because I went through it first and it is rude to drop the door on people!” I’ve opened doors for WAY more men in my life than women. Mostly dudes trying to get out of the gas station with an arm full of beer and burritos. Or a delivery guy trying to get in the door with a dolly. Women see this as gendered because they don’t do it for anyone. Meanwhile I hold the door for everyone, …

Yeah, I mean those ladies are right. It is fucked up that they pushed back their retirement age after a lifetime of preparing to receive benefits at 60. They should have moved the pension age for men up to 60 to achieve parity. And they should have back-paid every man currently drawing benefits the amount they should have received. This would also have had the benefit of reducing the labor pool rather than enlarging it (men retiring versus women extending their careers) which would have been a h…

That’s not even equivalent. Castration is far worse than FGM. The equivalent would be a male professor advocating for mass full hysterectomies of baby girls. Fucking sick.

There is a reason that gay men catch a bad rap in feminist circles. If their agenda was truly what they say then gay men would be natural allies. Instead they really really distrust men they can’t manipulate with sex and who have no desire for their “societal currency.” The relationship between feminists and gay men looks very similar to the relationship between feminists and MGTOW for a reason.

Being hyper-sensitive to something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, it just means I can see it even in small amounts. You seem to recognize that it is everywhere, since you said it can be found everywhere, even if it is in small amounts.

This is not the point in question. SHE never told anyone to call her “doctor,” nor did she complain about not being called “doctor.” Someone ELSE is saying she SHOULDN’T CALL HERSELF “doctor.” I’m not aware of anyone who suggested that Ben Carson shouldn’t call himself “doctor.”

The question of calling someone with an advanced degree “doctor” or not isn’t sexist you are correct. That isn’t the discussion. The op-ed is dripping with, “now listen here little lady, men are talking.”

Well, the point of contention is that her academic degree isn’t medical. So the Dr. Carson question didn’t equate. I’m also not aware of anyone who suggested he should not be called doctor. More to the point, she isn’t the president. You can’t compare her treatment to the treatment of the president. As for comparisons to Melania, Melania was largely left unmentioned until her plagiarism incident. Even after that anyone speaking poorly of her was firmly dressed down on social media and by others …

What exactly has she done that is worthy of mocking besides “having an advanced degree?” Do you think it would have been appropriate to call out Dr. Martin Luther King Jr for using his “Dr” title with his Doctorate of Theology? Would it have been ok to call him “kiddo?”

This data should only tell you that men have to work no matter what they pay in tax, and women have the luxury to not work if they feel the tax burden is too high. This isn’t a scenario you correct by lowering the tax burden on women.

That specification was regarding recording a fathers name on the birth certificate. If the child’s mother is unknown due to abandonment, then no name would be recorded as a parent on the birth certificate. That child could still be adopted, and people could assume legal responsibility for the child, but the birth certificate would remain blank.

No, one would assume the mother would be known. And a male parent could adopt that child. But his name wouldn’t be on the birth certificate.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/12/20 03:14 PM

Yeah, the law is easy to write, to record a fathers name on the birth certificate there must be a DNA test OR that the biological father is KNOWN, his rights have been observed and waived, and this person is knowingly accepting parental responsibility.

Just who does she think is going to keep the electrical grid running and who is going to drill for oil? Who is going to pick up the garbage and fix your toilet and build your houses and assemble your cars and weld your fences and repair your septic tank and and and... This is the reason I always felt like the “women’s strike” days were a bad marketing ploy. If all the women stop going to work one day? The double standard is that men have no intrinsic value in society and so have less freedom of choice when it comes to careers. Men must derive 100% of their worth from economic value. If they don’t have family wealth that means your value is determined by what you can earn. Women are valued in society intrinsically. Their value in society is not limited to economics. This allows women (by and large, not universally) more freedom in academic and professional pursuits. Saying it out loud doesn’t …

The issue with empowerment vis a vis feminism in STEM is that the reason women are underrepresented in STEM fields is by choice. As in a literal choice that men, by and large, must weigh differently. Women are free to study and pursue careers in areas that interest them in a way men are not. Women are far more free to study Art History and Literature because society doesn’t expect them to be able to provide for a family on their single income. Men don’t have that same choice. Men are forced into…

Tell her that she is not welcome to come by and to stop calling. Record this conversation. Tell her it is recorded. Tell her you have COVID and that you are super contagious. Move all her items into a storage unit. Record yourself doing this. Show that everything is unbroken and present. Put a combination lock on the storage. Tell her where to get her stuff, tell her the combination, and tell her that you only paid for one month so after 30 days whatever happens is on her. Record this conversati…

The issue you bring up is procedural, the problem is systemic. They clearly committed the same crime (as in, the actual crime) why did he have different charges? Why was his plea less favorable? The procedural equivocation ignores the systemic reality.
