Time and time again, people try this ridiculous line of thought. Do you tell women that their abusive relationships are their fault because they should have seen the red flags?

I agree, but I don't think that people can't change, the overwhelming majority just don't.

There have been publicized cases of people ( mostly women) faking cancer for attention, money, etc. I think OP would have the best viewpoint on her veracity, but it's not unheard of. Hell, women have poisoned their children to nurse them back to help for attention.

I respect your opinion. I personally would have wanted to know that 25 years before all of that. That's the issue. They need to have mandatory testing at birth.

I would like to think it's mocking, but then you see that they always get a slap on the wrist and no one cares. I think a lot of truth is said in jest and those people really just don't care

I think the issue is the normalizing of certain things also, except I think minimizing their importance by joking about it is a key factor. It's how perpetrators get away with these things, it's not seen as serious. "I wish my hot teacher..." On the other hand, the hipocracy is amazing. All through school it was put in our heads that girls mature faster than boys, they're more responsible, etc. But let a RUMOR get started a male teacher was hooking up with a female student and he's done, true or…

And you don't think cultural norms, like it being ok to joke about female teachers raping students, contribute to this bias. Biases don't form in a bubble.

This is soo true, I met a married couple and hung out with them a few times about a year or so ago. They seemed like the first really healthy married people I'd had the pleasure to meet. They are now separating, never can tell.

I'm not surprised People tend to seek out like my need people. In my experience I've seen mostly regret. The people who just had to leave a legacy, fucked it all up. Miserable and passive aggressive toward those that chose something different. As far as what do I have. I have all of what I need and most of what I want. I have family and friends. I volunteer and have seen the fruits of that labor and I'm proud of the positive influence I've provided. You talk about legacy. You got married, pop ou…

Damn, never thought of that! They must take decent care if their residents.

Again, you assign things I never said. I never once mentioned anything about material possessions. I personally enjoy my life, the freedom tower do what I want, when I want. I have never thought to myself, "I'd like to have a family," If someone special comes along who also doesn't want kids that's fine, but it's not negotiable.

Like I said before, you do you. My original comment was an opposing viewpoint. You claimed that if we don't choose like you have, then we are somehow immature or "fucking around and wasting all our time." As far as the rest (nature of women, etc.), to each their own.

I was doing the same. You do you. I made no judgement on how you lived merely pointed out yours. As far as legacy. I'm not sure what that means to you so I'll leave it alone, for me personally, I think people think way too highly of what they leave behind.

Fair enough. I myself currently look after my grandmother (87). I also have no plans for a nursing home, but man it sure is prevalent.

You made a lot of assumptions about single life. I'm assuming they were anecdotal. I don't sit and play video games or hermit with my hobbies. My hobbies are actually how I expanded my friend group. Marrying someone definitely does not signify any sort of maturity nor does having a child. I wish you luck in your choices, but there is no reason to justify them, by denigrating the choices of those who chose different.

Be careful with those visions of the future. I used to volunteer a lot at nursing homes and the VAST majority of the residents had everything you say you want until they got dumped in a home. Just because you create a family doesn't mean there going to be around. If these things will make you fulfilled and happy then you should go for it. My fulfilment and happiness is internal. Having people around is great in small doses, but I find relationships draining (and not just the usual financial way)…

At my job someone mentioned SMART goals. It's helped me focus on a specific thing. Specific,Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-based. I wanted to finish school so I set the goal. I can see the progress, it is doable, it will help my career prospects (relevant), and I have one class left before I'm done.

Definitely, I find myself leaning into people when I'm talking. My voice just doesn't carry. I thought I was the only one!

^ This. You don't have to win, you just have to fight. Next time he starts in, just say, "boy, you sure talk a lot of shit, especially since we ALL know you don't want problems..." Every time he starts, let him know he can catch these hands whenever, wherever. You can then escalate from there. "You STILL, running your mouth? Man your daddy must be ashamed of you. If he stuck around." Now, you must back this up if your bluff is called. But like the post above, win some, lose some. I guarantee he'…

So actually, the kid could have even been 14 and how long did she groom him before that?

Question: the linked article says "minor", but when you click on the WKYT (or whatever) link it says "a minor under 16" so the kid could be 10, 12, what's the range we're talking? Also, I think a bunch of posters have forgotten the premise of doing something "under the color if authority". Regardless of whether it's a man or woman, this is an adult engaging in a physical relationship with a child/teenager. Since the article just says "under sixteen" I'm not sure we aren't dismissing predatory be…

Article said the minor was "under 16".
