It sounds like you both have reasons to be burnt out. A lot of this sounds like codependency on your end and control issues on his. There's a lot of resentment on both sides. This isn't to be combative. More out of curiosity. I'm curious what is specifically abusive about him? He seems controlling about which school she attended and which major she chose. Beyond that though, it sounds like she is very reliant on his guidance. To me, this is natural between a RPW relationship.

I'm not a RPW, but these are all great suggestions. OP also needs to speak through her long-term goals with her husband, and also talk about what balance looks like. To be honest, it sounds like OP is very high-maintenance. He is emotionally supporting her, financially supporting her, and trying to guide her through school and debt. I am confused also why they are living paycheck to paycheck if they are a dual income household with no children at the moment.
