I think they actually did this. I'll have to look it up, but I remember reading something about how they took a donor egg, extracted the DNA, and used stem cells to refill it into a viable egg cell. It'll be possible to clone in such a way, given another decade of research. With the way environmental factors work, and mutations, even a clone child won't be a 1-1 copy of their progenitor. If anything, WB and Rowling stood by Depp for keeping him in Fantastic Beasts, even as he was given the boot right and left elsewhere and people were clammoring for Colin Ferrel to continue on as Grindelwald instead. I wouldn't support such genetic engineering for "equality".
