I like jokes that take a little while to figure out, almost like riddles. So, I'll sit there unpacking my own joke and laugh, whereas to others it just looks like I'm explaining a joke. I'm not trying to break them up, just keep myself as an option when they decide they are done. Additionally if she really likes him, shell stay with him, and there's no reason to be protective.
